Harvey Kass

Born Harvey Kastrinsky in Brooklyn to Eastern European Jewish immigrants Abraham and Katie (Miller), Harvey grew up playing stickball in the streets of East New York. After graduating Thomas Jefferson High School, he climbed the ranks of the sheets and towel business, eventually starting his own successful company. In 1957, he married Judy Kass (née Reisberg), and they moved to Wantagh, Long Island. Following years of sunny Florida beach vacations, in 1976 they moved for good to Bay Colony in Fort Lauderdale. They lived in Florida ever since, with many summers spent with family and friends at their beautiful Nantucket home Hang Ten. Harvey had strong and loudly shared opinions on matters great and small: which politicians are yutzes, that there is no such thing as too much sun, that orchids are not a front yard plant, that his grandkids really are the BEST. He had an encyclopedic memory for names and faces, and loved laughing and schmoozing with friends old and new. Always the life of the party, "The Harv" will be remembered by everyone who knew him for his generosity, fun-loving nature, one-of-a-kind sense of humor, and immense love for his family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Judy Kass, his children Mitchell Kass (Jackie) and Lori Kass Mahowald (Paul), and 6 grandchildren (Kyle, Sarah, Megan, Andrew, Michael, Matthew) to whom he was Pop.
