Samuel "Sammy" Valdez, Sr.

1964 - 2020

On December 28, 2020, Samuel (Sammy) Valdez, Sr., 56, gained his heavenly wings. Sammy was born on June 14, 1964, in Lebanon, Indiana, to Manuel and Maria Valdez. Sammy owned and operated Valdez Painting for 10 years where he worked alongside his two sons doing what he loved to do. On December 18, 1989, Sammy married Teresa (Terri) Cabrera, and together they raised two sons and one daughter who he always said was the apple of his eye. Sammy had an amazing and undeniable passion for the Lord. He and his family have been long-time members of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church where he served as a trustee for 20 years. Sammy was known for his sense of humor, his positive attitude and for always correcting everyone on their spelling. He enjoyed traveling, long drives, collecting antiques, and music, especially the oldies. Sammy was definitely a kid at heart, always cracking jokes and finding nicknames for everyone he knew. No one left his presence without a little laughter and a whole lot of spiritual advice! Sammy was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Valdez, and older brothers Armando and David Valdez. He is survived by his wife Teresa Valdez, two sons Samuel Valdez, Jr., and Joshua Valdez and wife Raelina, one daughter Bianca Ramsey and husband Chase all of Sweetwater. He is survived by four beautiful grandchildren who were, without a doubt, the light of his life, Aliyah Ramsey, Adrian, Noah and Jasiah Valdez. Three brothers, Manuel Valdez, Jr. and wife Susie of Sweetwater, TX., Daniel Valdez of Lubbock, TX, Jaime Valdez and wife Diana of Sweetwater, TX. Six sisters, Maria Ramos and husband Daniel of Roby, Diana Flores and husband Richard of Lubbock, TX., Gracie Valdez of Sweetwater, TX., Sandra Rosas of Midland, TX., Suzanne Martinez and husband Elias of Abilene, TX., Angie Ramirez and husband Isidro of Sweetwater, TX., Claudia Knox and husband Anthony of Sweetwater, TX., and a host of nieces and nephews. Sammy's going home celebration will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 4, 2021 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Frankie Santiago officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
