Rev'd. David Thomas Solomon

Doctor (Rev.) David Thomas Solomon passed peacefully on August, 17th, 2016. He was surrounded by his loving children & grandchildren. He was preceded by his loving wife, Kaye Solomon, and his parents, James and Euna Mae Jacobs Solomon.

David enlisted and served in the United States Naval Services, and was a Veteran of the Korean conflict where he served our country on a Naval Destroyer until his honorable discharge in 1955.

After his discharge, David committed his life to serving Christ, becoming an ordained minister and serving as Pastor for (in order): First Baptist Church of Winter Garden, FL; Orange City Baptist Church, FL; First Baptist Church of Cerro Gordo, NC; and finally Immanuel Baptist Church, Tallahassee, FL, where he retired after 21 years of service to his community. In his retirement he continued his service as the Director of Missions for the Taylor County Baptist Association (FL) until 2014.

In his early days, David was an avid football, basketball, and baseball player at Lakeview High School. His team won four championships through 1949 & 1950: 1 in football, 1 in basketball, and 2 in baseball. In 1951 Lakeview High School won the new Orange Belt Conference titles in all three sports, winning more championships than any other team in the school's history, a record that still stands today. The team stayed in touch through the years and met annually up until 2015.

Upon his retirement, David enjoyed time with his family, and challenged his skills on the golf course. He was an ardent Florida State fan, and supported the college's basketball and football teams.

He is survived by his three children, David Kim Solomon and his wife Robin, Daniel Thomas Solomon and his wife Melanie and Deborah Solomon Skinner and her husband Ed; his grandchildren, Elena Solomon, Brannon Solomon (Rachel), David Solomon (Marissa), Savannah Leigh Skinner and Alexandria Nichole Skinner; and a great-granddaughter, Cecilia Solomon. Also surviving are his sister, Marie Benton and his brother Kenneth Solomon.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, August 19th at Bevis Funeral Home, 2710 North Monroe Street in Tallahassee. The funeral service, with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 20th at Immanuel Baptist Church, 2351 Mahan Drive in Tallahassee. The committal will take place at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 22nd at the Winter Garden Cemetery, Winter Garden, Florida.

The family request that instead of flowers, a gift in Rev. Solomon's memory be made to the Florida Baptist Childrens Home, 8415 Buck Lake Rd. Tallahassee, FL 32317.
