Mary Poulos Obituary

Mary Cleotelis Poulos Mary Cleotelis Poulos, 81, passed from this world November 12, 2009, in Tallahassee. Born July 11, 1928, in Tampa, she married and lived with her husband and five children in Pensacola and Panama City before the family settled in Tallahassee in 1964. Mrs. Poulos retired after 27 years with the Division of Elections but her true passion was art. She completed a degree in Fine Arts from FSU, was a Lemoyne Artist and teacher for many years and accumulated many awards and mentions of merit at exhibits throughout the southeast over the span of her art career. She is survived by her son, Chris (Brenda); daughters, Christina (Valarie Marks), Erinee, Gigi, and son-in-law, Dale; daughter-in-law Penny Poulos; sisters, Helen Harageones (Jim) of Oldsmar, Fla., and Dorothy Cowden of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren, David (Ali), Andrea, Alex (Erin), Chris (Karey), Stephen, Ashly (Amy), Marina and Seth; four great-grandchildren, Max, Tristan, Hunter and Joey; and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris; her brother, Gregory; and her son, Andrew. The family receive dfriends Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee(850-385-2193). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shrine of Saint Michael Taxiarchis, 113 Hope Street, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689-3329, or St Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.tg.stjude.org.

Mary was a wonderful woman and I remember her fondly from my days working with her at the Department of State back in the 70's. Her artistic talent was a delight to us all. My sympathy to all of you.

Erinee, Gigi, Christina and Chris -- I am so sorry for your loss. Your mother was such a beautiful and talented woman. She was always so gracious to me whenever I was fortunate to spend time with her. I always enjoyed her artwork and my conversations with her. She was a wonderful mother and I know she will be deeply missed. May her memory be eternal.
