Joseph Johnston Obituary

JOHNSTON, SR., Joseph W., 83, of Timber Pines, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at his home under the loving care of his family and hospice. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and came to this area 19 years ago from Malverne, L.I., N.Y. He was Lutheran by faith and an active member of Nativity Lutheran in Weeki Wachee. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served in World War II. He was a retired Brew Master and was President of N.Y. District Brewers Association. He enjoyed golfing, bocci, and playing cards (Bridge). He also enjoyed life and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 62 years., Viola Johnston of Timber Pines; one son, Joseph W. Johnston, Jr. of Appleton, Wis.; one daughter, Susan Schnelle of Malverne, L.I., N.Y.; "daughter" Kathleen Bloomer and her husband Glen of Hernando Beach; one sister, Ethel Kehrbaum of Mattituck, L.I., N.Y.; three grandsons, Jason Schnelle and his fiancÉ Cara of Buffalo, N.Y., Lee Schnelle of Malverne, N.Y., and Christopher Johnston of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends. A gathering in celebration of Joe' s life will be on Friday, February 23, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Spring Hill Chapel of Brewer & Sons Funeral Homes, 4450 Commercial Way. A Celebration of Life Service will be at his church, Nativity Lutheran, on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Kristin Wee as officiant. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Hernando/Pasco Hospice 12260 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, FL 34613.
