1941 - 2022

ZEYA, Rehana Gulnar most beloved mother, sister, daughter, and wife, passed away on October 22, 2022, at the age of 81. Born in Bettiah, India in 1941, Gulnar excelled at everything she did, from raising five children and mercilessly spoiling six grandchildren; to graduating first in her class at St. Theresa Girls' School; to speaking and reading multiple languages; to reinventing complex Indian recipes for the American kitchen, including the world's best shish kebab and dhal puri. A talented artist, gifted gardener, and intrepid world traveler, she brought beauty to the everyday and lit up any room she graced with sharp wit, storytelling, and elegance. A constant force for good in an ever-changing world, hers was a life of integrity and generosity across a mind-boggling span of history, from pre-Independence India to the iPhone era. Gulnar was a truly a remarkable and brilliant woman and the embodiment of unconditional motherly love. She is survived by her husband, Hasan; her children, Humayun, Gazelle, Seema, and Uzra; and grandchildren, Adam, Sabrina, Kira, Liam, Lexi, and Conor. A visitation for Gulnar will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 1-2 pm at Blount & Curry FH-Carrollwood, 3207 W. Bearss Ave., Tampa, FL 33618, followed by a memorial service from 2-3 pm.
