Samuel Davis Obituary

DAVIS, Samuel E. III, 61, of Clearwater, died Friday, September 16, 2005, at Bay Pines VA Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla. Born in Columbia, S.C., Davis grew up in Spartan- burg, S.C. He and his late wife, the former Alice DePass, moved to Orlando in 1975. Davis moved to Clearwater in 1999. He was a Vietnam veteran and U.S. Army officer. He attended The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., in 1963 and 1964. Pledge master of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, Davis graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina in 1966. He was an entrepreneur who specialized in advertising, newspaper publishing and barter. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Largo. He is survived by his father, Samuel E. Davis Jr. of Orlando; fiancee, Jan Benedict of Clearwater; son, Samuel E. Davis IV of Orlando; daughter, Alice Rebecca Davis of Orlando; sister, Diane Knox of Atlanta, Ga.; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2005, at S t. Paul United Methodist Church, 1199 Highland Ave., Largo, Fla. Veterans Funeral Care (800) 467-7850
