I just recently heard of Red's passing. I knew him only casually through auditions throughout the years and haven't had the opportunity to reconnect recently. Although this is such sad and unexpected news, I felt it necessary to express how much he had helped and touched people's life during his time here on earth. May you dance in the heavens, Red and may we all come together and celebrate your life through your family and friends remembering how special you were to so many others.

Dear Red's Loved Ones';
I wanted to send my heartfelt sympathy to you all regarding the loss of red. He was my dance teacher and friend. He was the kind of man that will be missed by all who knew him as any time spent with Red was memorable! He was a great influence on mykids he taught also and myself that he tried to enlighten me with some of his skills. I always enjoyed his honesty, humor, and leadership he had in the class he taught us. You should be very proud of the man that you gave to us, even though his time here too short. I will miss him but he was truly an unforgetable person in my life and for that I thank you and I feel fortunate that he touched my life though too brief. My thoughts and prayers are with you to soon feel the joy of Red in heaven. Love, Jody Ferguson

How can we can thanks for the many things you have done for us - words could never express our gratitude. For all that you've done, that you've said to help us take daily steps through this tedious journey, we are greatly appreciative. You really have been our strength, our support and held us up when we were about to fall - what a "stronghold" there is with extended family, friends and community-so much love. If our arms were big enough, we'd embrace all of you at one time and give you the hug of love. Red would have been so very happy for these special moments; I would like to send all the cards, phone calls, e-mails, facebook entries and photos to him at "711 Up In Heaven" - This would surely bring a smile to his face - Thank you so very, very much - The Savage and Gammage family.

“The miracle of connection even when one is far away… the spirit still lingers on. Once touched by the sensitivity, kindness, compassion and utter joy from one’s soul you will never be the same -- if all the gifts were received in truth.”

May the peace that only "God" gives be with you all. The service this morning was truly an inspiration! I am very grateful to have found out just who and what "Red" means to so many. I put it in the present tense because, as you all expressed so profoundly, he will always live! The Haneef Family, St Petersburg, FL

Sam
What an inspiration you have been to me and so many of our friends.
You always have such a positive and going forward attitude even in the direst circumstances…
I will always remember the joy that you projected and your zeal for life… Every memory I have of you makes me smile…or laugh. I still remember like it was yesterday how you loved driving my military truck “the U boat land barge” as you called it and the various trips we took in it. I learned so much from you. Knowing you has greatly enriched my life…!

Whether in high school, my college days, or in later years; when I heard the name 'Sam Savage' I smiled. It was the kind of smile that made me close my eyes and think back to really great times. I have goosebumps right now just thinking about him. And I'm smiling.

July 20, 2009

Never, ever in any manner would a mother want to experience the loss of her child - Never, Ever! The Pain, the hurt, the process is overwhelming and a chapter in life we never plan on reading. My tears pour like a river overflowing, I continue to seek strength and understanding. The love we have for my son is like the love God has for each of us. Thanks to each of you for your kind words, acts and deeds; for the part you played in our sons life to make him the individual he was. The power of your prayers are felt and appreciated. The family of Samuel "Red" Savage cannot express our gratitude enough.

A star was born illuminating the path of life brightly wherever he went and touching the lives of individuals he met - what a beautifully strong spirit. I recall so often Red's conversations and expressions of love for his family: Allene, his mother; Sam, his dad, Lisa his sister and his big brother Bart. He couldn't wait to get back home for special occasions, bearing gifts. Red's biggest dream was that his family would be proud of him -Be assured Red -God is and so is your family - May the Peace of God embrace his family tightly during this difficult time.

I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.

I only new Sam for a few years back in high school but what I remember clearly is that Sam was one of those kinds of people who seemed to be able to make lots of friends and get along in any social circle...he was the kind of person we should all aspire to be more like. Sam was always positive and genuine. I can see from the postings here and on FB that after school, wherever Sam went he touched those around him.

July 18, 2009

You hear "Red's teaching, Red's teaching" and everyone straightens in posture, not out of fear but out of respect and a discipline demanded and well deserved before he even entered the room. In our 10 years as New World Dance, whenever the students needed a good butt kickin', we called Red. When ideas and choreography were running thin two chaotic weeks before our recital, we called Red. When it was time to work, he was on! and when the work was done, I'd turn around and he was gone... yes, like Batman. In charge when necessary and calming when called for, Red was New World royalty. Red was our friend. To a short life well lived, in the absence of your body, our arms are wrapped around a gigantic thank you.

Love you brotha'

My deepest condolences to Sam's family and friends. He truly touched the lives of everyone he met. I hope he's choreographing something to perform in the next life! He's probably gotten the angels dancing. The first time I met Sam was in Steve Bayless's office at Gibbs HS when Sam was a freshman. By all rights I probably shouldn't have met Sam at all, because I was there with Donna White just as a visiting Theatre teacher from Miami. Sam burst into the office with his big smile and in his big voice he announced that he wanted to be in the next musical, and if they were choosing one, he wanted it to be one that had a role for him to play! Later in his high school career he would spend Saturdays choreographing with Donna for districts and musicals. Watching him grow, learn and share his talent during his entire high school career was a wonderful experience. His enthusiasm never waned and his passion for performing blossomed. I last saw him at Donna's retirement party and it was as if it had only been a few months since we had seen each other when in actuality it had been many years. Then, as always, he had a big hug, kiss and experiences to share. He left this world too soon, but I guess the Lord needed some entertainment in heaven. Love and sympathy to his family.

The tears flowed immediately upon hearing the news of Red's passing. A wise woman once told me "tears over someone's death honors and is a reflection of their importance and the mark they left on your life". At first I was just a parent of one of his students at La Giselle Dance Studio - later I was fortunate to BECOME one of his students in the "adult morning jazz class". Just thinking about that class makes me smile! He was hard on us (as if he thought we were professionals!) but he was also energetic, enthusiastic, encouraging, and simply...fun! Our annual show numbers were as colorful, creative and entertaining as he was! His stern look and big eyes starring at you when you weren't doing what he wanted could be frustrating...but his big smile made you feel great! We shared the same birthday - kind of made me feel like I knew him just a little better than I should have. Memories will last forever...
Thank you for leaving a special mark on my life...

My thoughts and prayers go out to Sam's family and many friends. I had the honor and privilege of knowing Sam throughout high school. Go Gladiators! I remember Sam as being a kind hearted person. He was full of life, love and laughter. I loved watching him on stage. He had a presence that would mesmerize you. And he could make you smile and laugh when you didn't evne want to. His bubbling personality was infectious and I only wish that our friendship went beyond high school. But we all go our separate ways to pursue our dreams....that is what Sam did and I am sure he was happy and successful. Sam will be missed by many and I am blessed and grateful to have known him.

Red,

I am truly and deeply saddened by the loss of such an inspiring dancer/choreographer. I have so many memories of being in class with you, but my fondest was actually getting to dance on stage with you during New Worlds dance show "One". I will never forget the "Proud Mary" days!! For our class, I don't think we could ever say we had more fun performing a dance then we did with that number!! As much as you were loved here, God obviously needed you up there to keep X company...

You will be missed by all of us at LaGiselle/New World Dance.

Love,

From the first time I met you- hanging around my Mom's class after school at Melrose, to the last time we shared lunch at Biff Burger and my children had the pleasure of meeting you, my life was touched by your constant joy. We shared the stage many times, both at Gibbs and Shenandoah, and always had a blast doing so. But my fondest memories of you are moments like watching the sunrise from Parker Lounge, after a long night of roasting hot dogs by the river. Hurricane parties, road trips, spontaneous dancing and singing, laughing, crying, missing St. Pete together, calling Mom, are a few of the many moments I've been replaying in my head. You will be sorely missed. You touched so many lives and so many hearts! You put so much life into everything you did! Those of us left here will hold you in our hearts until we meet again. Give Mom a hug for me, Tham.

God bless all of Red's family members and friends who are mourning our loss and celebrating his life! And what a life it was!

Red,

It has been said that "Some people make the world special, just by being in it". You, my friend, were definately one of those people. My ultimate goal in life is to make an impact on everything I do and everyone I touch and leave this world a better place than when I arrived. I would say that you have done that without a doubt. Everyone that has known you would agree that their life was enriched in one way or another thanks to you. You will be missed.

May God bless your family at this most difficult time. Red was a teacher/choreographer at my studio (La Giselle Dance Studio) in Canyon Country California. He came to the studio in the early 1990's and we remained friends ever since. All the students adored him as did I. We had such a wonderful time together and shared MANY laughs. He was a great talent and wonderful friend. Please know that he touched our hearts and INSPIRED many great dancers. His work will live on through them. We are all heartbroken but I know he is dancing in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely,
Joanne Bruchez
