Kayla A. DeMello

Kayla A. DeMello, 21, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, R.I., from injuries sustained in a car accident on July 6 in Rehoboth. Born in Stoughton, Mass., she was the beloved daughter of Robert C. and Lucia (Correia) DeMello and the beloved older sister to Kelsey DeMello. She was the loving granddaughter of Maria (Santo) Correia of Taunton and the late Maria C. (Vigario) Melo, the late Angelo P. Melo, and the late Jose Correia, all from Taunton. Kayla also leaves behind many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Kayla grew up in Taunton and moved to Rehoboth with her family in 2004. She attended Rehoboth schools and graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in 2013. Committed to a life dedicated to the service of others, she was studying to become a radiologic technologist at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston. Currently in her clinical year at Massachusetts General Hospital, she was expected to graduate Summer 2017. As a student, her passion for her studies and her field of work were recognized by her teachers, hospital staff, and especially her patients, who noted how kind and caring she was. Kayla worked at Ocean Express in Seekonk for the past 2 years as an office assistant. She took pride in her work and always put others above herself. Known to light up a room wherever she went, Kayla brought joy and humor to all with her contagious laughter. Her infectious smile and her loving and caring disposition will forever be remembered. Kayla enjoyed photography and capturing the beauty of the world around her. She had a passion for the city of Boston and all things Boston, especially the Red Sox. She enjoyed a variety of activities | traveling, riding her bicycle, kids movies, all things Mac, ice cream outings at the Ice Cream Barn with her little sister, A Christmas Story marathons, shopping at Vineyard Vines, the beach, and working out at the gym. Her favorite things were seafood (especially lobster), wearing her hair in a bun, the color blue, and riding in her Acura. Her morning ritual consisted of a Starbucks caramel macchiato on her train commute to school. Above all, her most treasured activity was being surrounded by her family and friends. A service honoring her life will be held from the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave, Taunton, MA on Thursday, July 14, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 19 Kilmer Ave, Taunton, MA at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 475 E. Britannia St., Taunton, MA.
