Richard H. "Dick" Rienstra, 84

CHELMSFORD - Richard H. "Dick" Rienstra, 84, died Wednesday, September 03, 2014 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Patricia J. (Boughton) Rienstra, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage in June. He was born in Boston on April 14, 1930 and was the son of the late Richard A. and Mildred C. (Mausert) Rienstra. He received his education in Needham schools and was a graduate of Needham High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University in Boston. Dick served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 20 years as a service engineer by GenRad in Concord. Dick was an active member of West Chelmsford United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Chelmsford Minutemen and was a Mason. He enjoyed traveling across the country with his wife and children in their camper and taking trips to the beach. Dick also loved fishing with friends and grandsons, as well as a model train enthusiast. In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Rick" and Leeanne Rienstra of Douglas; his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and George Higgins of Littleton; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Higgins of Sandown, NH, Bradley Rienstra, and Kevin Rienstra, both of Douglas; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and James Ruane of Centerville; and many close friends. Visitation will be held at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford on Monday, September 8th from 4 until 7 pm. His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11am at West Chelmsford United Methodist Church, 242 Main St., N. Chelmsford, MA 01863. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick's name to the West Chelmsford United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
