Billy Ray Bowers of Nashville, TN, passed away September 1, 2017, at the age of 85.
He is preceded in death by his parents Winston Bowers Sr. and Ann Elizabeth Austin Bowers, wife Alice Imogene Bowers, son Larry Wayne Bowers, brother Winston Bowers, and sisters: Marie Gardner, Mildred Hunter, Helen Shacklett, Ida D. Myers, Margaret Nichols, Deborah Bowers and Diane Bowers.
He is survived by his companion Leila Hurst, daughters: Pam (Tony) Beard, Shirley Ann Johnson, Susan Bowers Howard and Brenda Sue Walsh, brother Phillip (Faye) Bowers, sisters Imogene (Bob) Marcum and Barbara Sue (Jerry) Hofferbert, along with 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
In honor of Billy Ray's life, the family invites friends and loved ones for Visitation on Monday, September 4th, and Tuesday, September 5th, from 12 pm to 8 pm at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral Service to be announced.
Serving Pallbearers: Steve Thomas, Michael Thomas, Chris Walsh, Joey Bowers, Luke Evans, Logan Clark, Cody Thomas and Tyler Thomas.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of Mr.Bowers. I had gotten to know him over the past few years through his volunteering with the Parks and Rec Dept. He had a genuine love for this community. From donating his time and fireworks display at our Christmas parade to handing out candy to children at the annual trail of treats Halloween event in the park. He always spoke fondly of his family upon his visits to our office. Please know Mr. Bowers will be sincerely missed by each of us. Prayers of comfort to the family and all that knew him.

Pam, Shirley, Suzie, Brenda, I am sad to hear about the passing of your dad and my friend, mentor and one time employer. Billy, gave all of our neighborhood boys the opportunity to work, learn and make money doing hot, hard work. He was a tough man, while being a compassionate friend and teacher of ethics. He will e greatly missed! You girls are like sisters to Gary, Phyllis, Karen and me. We love each of you.
