Hazel Chapman Obituary

Hazel Inez Pierce Chapman

Smyrna, TN

Hazel Inez Pierce Chapman, age 94, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014. She was born January 3, 1920 in Falkland, NC.

She was a resident at Arbors of Azalea Court in Smyrna, TN, at the time of her death under the care of Alive Hospice and the loving staff of Arbors Assisted Living. After moving from her home in Atlanta, GA, in 1999, she was a resident at Park Manor Senior Lifestyle Community in Nashville, TN, until moving to assisted living in February 2012.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Lawrence Chapman, Sr., married for 51 years, and parents, Clarence Edward Pierce and Nannie Olivia Little Pierce.

She was a resident of Atlanta, GA from 1940 - 1999, business partner with her husband, Ed Chapman, Surveyor from 1948 - 1990, active member of the Atlanta Club from 1970 - 1999; President of the Atlanta Club, 1991-1992; former Deacon in First Christian Church, Decatur, GA; volunteer in the Auxiliary for DeKalb General Hospital, 1986-1990; a past Member of American Contract Bridge League. Hazel Chapman never met a stranger and was a dear friend to so many during her lifetime. She was a true "Southern Belle" and no one could forget her quick wit and humor. She has left a hole in our hearts but has blessed us with endless memories and stories.

Survivors include son, Edmund Lawrence Chapman, Jr. and his wife, Lynn Pierce Chapman of Athens, GA; daughter, Nancy Claire Chapman Deal and her husband, David Franklin Deal of Franklin, TN; sister, Anne Villwock of Milledgeville, GA; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to express our deep appreciation for the loving care provided by the dedicated staff at the Arbors and by Alive Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abe's Garden Alzheimer's and Memory Care Center of Excellence at 115 Woodmont Blvd, Nashville, TN 37205; or Alive Hospice, Inc. at 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.

I am so sorry to hear of your dear mom's passing. I last spoke to her on the 19th of November when I took my mom home from the Arbors. She was so much fun to talk with. We had a running tagline. She would say to me, "is that you?" and I would answer her, "yes it is, is that you?". We laughed a lot and she was concerned when I told her I was taking my mom home with me. Then before I left that day, she called me over and said that I would be fine and that she was happy I was taking mom home. I loved her so much. I am praying for you all to find comfort and peace from the Lord during this most difficult time. She always offered me her walker seat to sit upon when I was visiting my mom and I would be with them at the table. My mom is Mina and Miss Hazel sat at the table with her, Vivian, and Greta. I called it the pretty girl table.
