Jane Smithson Obituary

Jane C. Smithson

Old Hickory, TN

Jane C. Smithson, 79 of Old Hickory passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2016 with her loving children by her side. She was the beloved widow of Walter A. Smithson, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. Born in Rockvale, TN, she was the daughter of the late Melvin G Clark and the late Irene V Clark. Jane was a 1955 graduate of Central High School. Later she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1979 as #1 in her class of Education even as she was raising her own two children. Jane loved teaching. She taught in Metro Nashville Schools, Whispering Hills Christian Academy and St. Paul Christian Academy. When her first grandchild was born, she became an entrepreneur opening a consulting firm with her daughter, so that she could work from home and enjoy time with her grandchildren. To those that knew her, Jane was a wonderful mother, Nonnie, friend, Sunday School teacher, and very talented math teacher. She was very artistic too, and had a talent for crocheting and knitting. She has provided many beautiful items to her friends and family, especially cherished baby afghans. Nonnie will be dearly missed.

Jane is survived by a daughter, Pamela J (Smithson) Whittaker, a son Jeffrey W. Smithson (Cheryl), four grandchildren, Michael G Whittaker (Stephanie), Jayna R Goedecke (David), Katherine J Smithson and Rebecca L. Smithson; three great-grandchildren, Ava J Goedecke, Alexander C Goedecke, and Adelina E Whittaker; two loving brothers, Gary M Clark (Sheila) and Thomas W. Clark (Patricia); two loving sister-in-laws, Vivian Skinner and Connie Alloway; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be 10:00 am Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Hermitage Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Clark officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill, TN. Serving as active pallbearers will be Gary Clark, Tom Clark, Stuart Fraser, Kevin Wells, Clark Fraser, Conner Wells & Colton Wells.

The family will receive friends from 4pm till 8pm Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN 37138

What a beautiful soul and a life well lived!!!

I was blessed to be a student in her 5th grade class at St. Paul Christian Academy (1985-86). Always smiling, Mrs. Smithson possessed an other-worldly joy and contentment encountered by all which was reflective of her deeply rooted and abiding Christian faith.

Her personality put people at ease by its great continuity and her students could count on her to be present to their needs and accepting of themselves.

May your family be consoled and may Jane Clark Smithson intercede for us among the saints in the mystical body of Christ.
