John Lyle Obituary
LYLE, John ReidAge 85 of Nashville. Son of the late Reid, Jr. and Lillian Neblett Lyle, born in Clarksvjlle, TN on November 22, 1923, died May 1, 2009 in Nashville, TN where he had resided since early childhood. Mr. Lyle graduated from East Nashville High School, furthering his education at the University of Tennessee Extension School and with the advent of computers at numerous classes and courses offered by IBM. Mr. Lyle was a descendant of several pioneer settlers of Tennessee. They include the Rev. John Neblett, an early preacher in the Methodist movement who came to Montgomery County in 1806 from Lunenburg County, VA, and Benjamin G. Alexander who helped to organize the first Methodist Church and Sunday school south of the Hatchi River in Haywood County. Mr. Alexander's son who was Mr. Lyle's great-great grandfather taught the first school in that area. Mr. Lyle was perpetual inventory clerk for the Vultee Aircraft Corp. from 1943 until 1945 when he joined the Washington Manufacturing Co. as cost accountant becoming Director of Management Information Systems of that company and was active as Vice President of the Warren Realty Co. He was retired when Washington changed hands in 1966. He was a director, past President and National director of the National Association of Accountants, and served as a director of the Systems and Management Procedures Association. He was a member of the Stewart Cameron McCleod Society and was secretary of the Nashville Industrial Golf Association. Mr. Lyle was a life-long member of the Methodist Church serving at East End, Tulip Street and currently at Dalewood UMC where he donated its first computer and set up its operating system. He also served in each area of its administration and at the time of his death was Treasurer of the Dalewood Foundation. Mr. Lyle was married to Virginia Reavis on Sept. 25, 1943 and they have one daughter, Judith Webb Haggard. He is survived by his wife and daughter along with grandson, James Murray Webb, Jr; granddaughter, Kristen Denise Webb; great grandsons, Ryan Matthew, Evan James and Alexander Jared Webb. Pallbearers will be grandsons, nephew, David H. Thompson, Jr., Joe Legate, and Eddie Bryan. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Leonard Robinette Class of Dalewood UMC. and Linda Bishop, caregiver. Visitation at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home today from 2-5 p.m. and Monday, May 4 one hour prior to service at 11 a.m., Brother James Seigenthaler officiating. Interment following service at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials to Mr. Lyle may be made to Dalewood UMC. Foundation.
