Memorial services will be Friday July 21, 2017 at 2 PM from the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Charles Dillon officiating. Visitation with the family will be Friday July 21st from 1 PM until time of service.

Mrs. Vera Mai Swaw Bates, age 72 of Lyles, TN died Tuesday July 11, 2017. Born in Charlotte, TN she was the youngest of 12 children born to the late Ervin William and Daisy Vaughn Hollis Swaw and was preceded in death by her husband, James William Bates. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was a former employee of Ace Hardware in White Bluff,TN , Walmart and Developmental Services of Dickson County. She loved to read, thrift shop, crochet and garden. Vera was a collector of rocks with a character and a collector of brass.

Survivors include her children, Vera Lynn Kirby (Bill) of Lyles, TN, Melanie Kathleen Sutton of Florida, John Bates (Jeanae) of Dickson, TN, Lucindi "Cindi" Johnston (James) of Centerville, TN; brother, Allen Swaw (Mae) of Charlotte, TN; 8 grandchildren, James Matthew Sutton, Timothy Douglas Sutton, Erica Rahman, Samuel Adam Bates & his fiancée, Timbra Sutton, Juliet Rain Johnston and fiance Jed Delk, Leon Heath Bates, Quinton William Bates, Braden William Johnston; 6 great grandchildren, Kaleb Sutton, Liam Sutton, Wednesdei Black, Charlotte Black, Sebastian Delk, and Presley.
