James MacManus Obituary
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at a 3:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for James Patrick MacManus, 68, who died on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Roxanne MacManus; his mother, Maree Esther Cizmas MacManus; his fiancée, Barbara Rusich; one brother, Mike MacManus; two half sisters, Julie Rowe and Virginia Almendarez; and two half brothers, Steve Smith and David Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Lester MacManus.
James Patrick MacManus was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and made Lafayette his home for over 40 years. He was a practicing attorney for over 30 years, until his death. Mr. MacManus loved playing poker, was an avid pool player but his passion in life was playing chess. He was director of the Lafayette Chess Club for many years and enjoyed playing chess with his buddies on Friday nights. Mr. MacManus will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral Mass.

I have known Jim for 35 years. He loved to talk and laugh about the old days when he played pool with his friend Chap. I will miss him dearly. He always had a big smile and a laugh that lit up any day.

I met Jim when he and my brother Darrell were rooming together in college. Jim motivated me to play a better chess game. I really appreciated the attention he gave to me and my game. He will be missed.
