Robert Kirk Montgomery

1952 - 2023

Robert Kirk Montgomery (Kirk), of Alpine, California, passed away on September 8, 2023 in the company of his beloved family after a brief and devastating bout with pancreatic cancer. He was 71 years old.
Kirk was born on January 6, 1952 in Los Angeles, California, and spent the majority of his childhood in Greeley, Colorado, where his parents remained in the same house until their own passings.
Kirk attended College (now University) High School in Greeley. There he excelled in sports, earning Varsity Letters in football, basketball and track. During his senior year, Kirk was recognized as a standout in football and was awarded all conference end.
After graduating high school in 1970, Kirk was drafted and enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. He married his high school sweetheart, Andy Smith, in August 1971. Kirk's deployments on the USS England as a Sonar Technician took him throughout eastern Asia.
Kirk and Andy settled Alpine, California in 1976. Kirk was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1977. He began his civilian career as Maintenance Technician at Sony. Life continued in Alpine, where they raised three children, Tyla, Shayne and Drew. Kirk ultimately retired from Hologic, his "vacation job," shortly after Andy's sudden passing in a pedestrian accident in 2016.
In 2017, Kirk reunited with an old friend from Sony, Sheila, who was living in Maine. Kirk and Sheila married in Alpine in March 2021, and celebrated with their new blended family.
Kirk is survived by his current wife, Sheila; his daughter, Tyla Soylu, her husband, Soner and her daughter, Elani of San Diego; stepsons, James Tyler Baker of Temecula, CA and Christopher Neil Baker of Bangor, Maine, and their spouses and children; his brothers, Craig Montgomery of Evans, Colorado, and Kim Montgomery of Incline Village, Nevada; and his sister, Christie Donaldson of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; and his many nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws, friends and family alike.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that you make a donation to an organization that focuses on drug or alcohol addiction and recovery. The loss of Kirk's two sons was most devastating to him.
