Mavis Lemke

1919 - 2015

Mavis Lemke, 95, of Brighton, passed away Feb. 17, 2015. She was born April 14, 1919, in Fargo, N.D., to Selmer and Maud (Benschoter) Dalen. She graduated from high school in Hibbing, Minn., and later married Alfred R. Lemke, Sr. on Oct. 10, 1941, in Meeker.
Mavis had lived in Brighton since 1950, living in her own home for the past 19 years, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She worked for Kuners, JC Penny's and retired from Adams County in 1986 after 19 years of service as the coordinator in the Emergency Preparedness Department and for the County. Over those 19 years she also assisted helping veterans in the County Veterans Affairs Office.
She was active in the Democratic Party, worked as an Election Judge, was a member of the Brighton Business & Professional Women's Club, member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and served as past President of the County Employees Credit Union.
Mavis is survived by her children, Patty (Dan) Aultman, of Florence, Ginny (Bob) Bronaugh, of Silver Spring, Md., and Rich (Judy) Lemke, of Johnstown; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al, Sr. in 1996; two sons, Al, Jr. in 2006 and Bill in 2014; three brothers and one sister.
Memorial service was planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church.
