Eva Blazer Obituary

Eva Marie Blazer

November 28, 1962 - July 18, 2015

Salinas

In the early morning of July 18, 2015, the Lord decided to take home an angel he had created 52 years ago. Perhaps he knew she would soon suffer from such a harrowing disease. In our hearts, we choose to believe this to be true. Eva Marie Blazer lived only 52 short years and for this we are all so confused. We do not ask why. We know a reason is far too difficult to comprehend at this time. In the end, we all just know.

After moving from Athens, Greece with her mother, Maria and her father Joe, Eva grew up in Marina and attended Seaside High School. It is with smiles we can say even in her youngest years she blessed lives who still call to her as her best friends. Eva's mother soon met her own angel in a man named Jack Dixon, a man who gave Eva her perfect childhood. "Pop" was the greatest step-father a girl could ask for. As a woman of so many gifts and talents, Eva joined the police academy, volunteered as a firefighter and even worked in her step-father Jack's Prunedale gas station. Between the years of 1986 and 1988, Eva gave birth to two adoring children, Justin and Briana, whose hearts continue to bleed by the minute since her passing. For over 20 years, Eva and her family grew together and developed with her first husband, Charlie Sammut, what we know now as the Monterey County Zoo or as we knew then, Wild Things. She worked every day alongside family as an accountant at the Laurel Inn Motel.

Charlie and Eva went separate ways, both soon to remarry, and remained friends and great parents to Justin and Briana. The skies then changed, and Eva met the man she knew to be her angel, the love of her life, Scott Blazer. They were married in a beautiful ceremony over Big Sur. Eva breathlessly welcomed Scott's children, Zach and Tara, into her life and daily praised and bragged of her four beautiful children. Her children were her world. They will always be her world.

From then on, Eva's role as wife and mother grew and soon showered so many friends. She enjoyed parties, laughing, and early morning to late phone calls where she lived as a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold, and especially a smile on the other end of that line. Eva was known to everyone as one thing in particular. Eva, in all 52 years, had been hiding a bright light, large flowing wings, and a glowing halo. Eva Marie Blazer was a true angel, a woman with the kindest of souls, and certainly a friend to all. She had a passion for her family, her friends, an unimaginable love for her animals and all who she must have known appreciated her for her true and natural selflessness.

The loss of such a kind hearted mother, wife, and friend came to all of us as more than a shock. We had believed her to have battled and beaten breast cancer, but it quickly returned. Eva fought as she could with all her being but the disease was far too rapid.

Her death is not a goodbye, it is not a finale, and it is far from the end. Her death is a reminder. Eva has reminded us all what it truly means to be good, kind, angelic, optimistic and most importantly, she reminds us in her passing what unconditional love really means in life.

Eva is survived by her husband, Scott Blazer; children, Justin, Briana, Zach, and Tara; her sons-in-law, Guillaume D'Angio and Tony Young; mother, Maria Dixon; and cousins, George Colone, Vasiliki Rodriguez, and Michael Moustakas.

Eva was preceded in death by her father, Joe Vezina, and her step-father, John W. "Jack" Dixon (May 2004)

Eva loves flowers, animals, and the research of the disease that took her from us so soon. So if you so graciously would like to honor Eva in either of these ways, please make your donations to the American Cancer Society at 945 S. Main Street, Ste. 201, Salinas, CA 93901 or to the Monterey County SPCA at P.O. Box 3058, Monterey, CA 93942.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22nd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey, CA 93940.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church St., Monterey; with burial to follow at San Carlos Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will follow the burial at the Monterey Plaza Hotel.

I am so sorry to recently hear how hard you fought for recovery and found relief in death. I knew you from the 4th grade and remember you riding your bike! You smiled often and rode fearlessly on the streets of Marina! We always sat together at our reunions and you were happily married to Scotty who was very loving and kind! Your children always came first and you showed them your love every opportunity. You are missed by many and leave behind memories that will not be forgotten! Love, Memee Peggs Leone May you Rest In Peace.

Eva was a beautiful young lady whom I had the pleasure to know and call a friend. We were schoolmates since 7th grade, but most of all I'll always remember how she made me feel so very welcomed and accepted when I joined the Marina Dept. of Public Safety (Name back then), as a Volunteer Fire-fighter and Reserve Police Officer. Rest in Peace my friend.

Eva I remember riding around in your car with the "crazy Greek" license plate so that was my nick name for you. We had good times, got married I remember when you had your children. I remember when you met Scott you were so happy I knew you had met your soul mate. We have been in and out of touch through the years but when I would see you it was just as if we saw each other yesterday. Face book allowed me to follow you progress with that fight with cancer. I thought you had beaten it. You will be missed my friend the angels in heaven are lucky to have you. Condolences to Scott, her children and mom , to all her family and friends who will have Eva in their hearts until they too fly up to heaven to see her again.

Scott & Family-- My deepest condolences on the loss of one of the most wonderful people ever. I remember many years ago coaching Toro Softball and seeing this beautiful woman hitting infield like a professional. After getting to know Eva and coaching our daughters together, my wife and I knew that we had to introduce her to our friend.
Scottie- I still can picture you in the stands that first game and seeing in your eyes what we saw in Eva. You've been very lucky to have each other over the years.
Now, you, Justin, Brianna and all of us have a special angel looking out for us in heaven.
Our sympathy and love to your whole family.
