Froilan "Bong" Timbol Toledo, Sr., 75, of Watsonville, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in San Jose. He was born Aug. 10, 1940, in Tarlac Province, Philippines.
Froilan proudly served as Councilman, Vice Mayor and Mayor of his hometown Lawy, Capas, Tarlac, a Vietnam Veteran in the U.S. Army, then went on to work with North Monterey County School District for more than 20 years. He also opened facilities for the developmental disabled for the last 30 years. He was a proud member and head deacon of the Iglesia Ni Cristo.
Known to many as Bong, his beautiful life is the example to be followed: loving son, father, husband, brother, politician, soldier, Filipino-American, Christian Servant; He positively influenced everyone that came in contact with him. He spent his later years assisting family/relatives and enjoyed watching his grandchildren, watching C-Span and serving God.
His greatest gift by far was his humor - he made everyone laugh and feel immediately at ease. His generosity was overwhelming and he exemplified what it is to be a man: humble, loving, passionate, protective, hard working. Bong epitomized the American dream and was particularly proud of his children and grandchildren. From his humble beginnings, he achieved unsurpassed relational wealth.
He was preceded in death by parents, Alberto Sr. Divina, and brother, Felipe.
Froilan is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Victoria Toledo; daughter, Katherine (Clarence) Batacan; son, Froilan (Brenda) Toledo, Jr.; grandchildren, Kyle, Kaeley and Nikolas; brothers and sisters, Antonio, Alberto Jr., Carolina, Gil, Manuel, Jesus, Julie, Mario and Lourdes, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
Special thanks to the many doctors, nurses, medical staff and to the Lodia and Timbol families for the care given to this wonderful man.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Rd., Salinas, CA 93905.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Healey Mortuary Chapel.
Burial with Military Honors to follow services at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
