X. Modesto Hernandez

X. Modesto "Mode" Hernandez, 28, of Salinas, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, due to a sudden illness. He was born Oct. 17, 1985, in Salinas.

Mode graduated with honors from Alisal High School, Class of 2004. He hacked the school's computer system, instead of being expelled the school was amazed by this young man's talents. He was chosen by the Salinas Rotary Club at the age of 16 to be an exchange student and study abroad in Japan for one year. He was the co-founder of SalinasRacing.Com along with his life-long friends, Roy "Bubba" Munoz and Hector Garcia. He loved to race cars. His racing videos can be seen on YouTube where his memories will live on forever. Mode loved to go to his "Rancho" Las Bebelamas, Culiacan, Sinaloa, MX. Mode loved the Rancho since he was 4. He would spend the entire summer with his Tata Beto and Nana Cande. Everywhere Mode went he loved everyone and everyone loved him in Japan, Sinaloa and the U.S. Mode had such a free spirit and did the things he loved and accomplished more than anyone can imagine in such a short time. He worked at the family business Hernandez & Sons Appliances, H&R Block, and Salinas Valley Ford.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Esther Campos; uncle, Richard Duran of Salinas; maternal great aunts, Rosie Nazario and Lupe Ruiz of Salinas; paternal great-grandfather, Modesto Gonzalez; great-grandmother, Narcisa Hernandez; great-uncle, Hilario Gonzalez; and uncles, Jose Gilberto Hernandez, Pilar Gonzalez, and Rafa Sicairos of Culiacan Sinaloa, MX.

Modesto is survived by his mother, Margie Duran Hernandez of Salinas; father, Jose Manuel Hernandez of Culiacan, Sinaloa, MX; sister, Candelaria Rose Hernandez of Salinas; brothers, Estevan Gilberto Hernandez of Salinas, Jose Manuel Hernandez Jr of Culiacan, Sinaloa; host-sister, Cristina Pereira of Belo Horizonte, Brazil; maternal grandfather, Estevan Duran of Brownsville, TX; paternal grandfather, Jose Gilberto Hernandez of Culiacan, Sinaloa, MX.; paternal grandmother, Candelaria Sicairos of Amacili, Durango, MX; maternal aunts, Ruby Duran, Elizabeth Ramirez, Rosemary Duran, Imelda Saldivar of Salinas, Susie Figueroa of Santa Ana; maternal uncles, Luis Duran, Steve Duran, David Duran, Daniel Duran, Lito Campos of Salinas; paternal uncles, Mario Hernandez, Miguel Angel Hernandez, Adolfo Hernandez, Guadalupe Hernandez of Culiacan, Sinaloa, MX; paternal aunts, Teresa Hernandez, Chayo Hernandez, Consuelo Hernandez, Cecelia Hernandez, Dora Hernandez of Culiacan, Sinaloa, MX; maternal great-aunts, Mary Ozuna and Minnie Valadez of Salinas; paternal great-uncles, Liche Gonzalez, Tono Gonzalez of Culiacan, Sinaloa, MX; paternal great-aunts, Eva Gonzalez, Cachul Gonzalez, Lupe Gonzalez and Chalina Gonzalez of Culiacan, Sinaloa, MX; and other numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends from California, Sinaloa, Japan and Brazil.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Rosary will be held Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St. Salinas, CA 93901.

Funeral Mass will be Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., at Christ The King Church, 240 Calle Cebu, Salinas, CA 93901.

Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.

To the Margie and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Modesto. You have my deepest sympathy and you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
There are no words I can say at this time of that will heal the pain you all are going though. It will take time and you have a strong family and friends.
You have a the good memories to keep in your heart of him.
Now there is another star in the night sky looking down on all of you.
