Charles Maurice Magee, 80, passed away early Thursday morning September 23, 2021 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, Indiana from complications of COVID19. A son of the late Maurice C. and Mary Myrtle (Reece) Magee, Charles was born in Henry County, near Kennard, Indiana on January 26, 1941. He lived all his life in the Spiceland area and graduated from high school there in 1960. Charles served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked in skilled trades as a machine repairman and retired from Ingersoll-Avesta in New Castle after more than 30 years of service. Charles was active in his community by his memberships with the Spiceland Lions Club, Spiceland Volunteer Fire Department, Knightstown American Legion and attending Spiceland Friends Meeting where he was a Sunday School Teacher. Charles kept busy at home by working on lawnmowers in his garage and earned the nickname "The Lawnmower Man".
Survivors include 3 children, Amy Magee of Spiceland, Greg Magee of Indianapolis and Lisa Rains of Spiceland; 1 granddaughter, Emily (Brad) Goodwin of New Castle; 3 great grandchildren, Annabelle, Hayden and Gavin; 1 brother, Howard (Leona) Magee; several nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, the former Patricia Ann Borden, on October 2, 2011. They married in Abington, Virginia on December 5, 1964; 3 siblings, Esther Carmichael, Edna Kemerly and Eldon Magee.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday September 28, 2021 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. Burial with Military Honors conducted by the Knightstown American Legion will follow at the Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.
