Juanita Hicks Obituary
Juanita Hicks known as "Cookie" departed this life on July 29, 2015 due to a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Ruppert Prince Guilford, Sr. and the late Mattie Mae Johnson Guilford Reynolds. Cookie accepted Jesus Christ in her heart and was baptized at an early age. She received her education from the Vineland public school system. Cookie retired from the Vineland Developmental Center after 29 years. She was also previously employed by the First Student Bus Company in Mays Landing, NJ; and was currently employed by the Sheppard Bus Company in Millville, NJ. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland, NJ under the leadership of Reverend David Mallory and occasionally attended Mount Pisgah of Vineland, NJ under the leadership of Pastor Darnell Wise. Cookie's most enjoyable hobbies were playing mini golf, dancing, partying, traveling and spending vacation time with family. Her favorite songs were "Jesus Is Loved" and "Take Me to the King" and her favorite scripture was Matthew 6:9-13 "The Lord's Prayer". She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Cookie leaves to cherish her memory three children; Antoinette Guilford Byrd of Mays Landing, NJ; Jeanette Guilford of Vineland, NJ; William Hicks Bey, Jr. and his wife, Patricia Bey of Vineland, NJ; a long time and special friend Kenneth Mason; Eleven grandchildren; Seven great-grandchildren; two brothers; Lewis Guilford, and his wife Rosemary of Richland, NJ; Wayne Guilford of Millville, NJ; three sisters, Shirley Blackwell of Richland, NJ; Brenda Guilford of Millville, NJ and Janelle Guilford of Vineland, NJ; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband William Hicks, Sr.; a daughter, Kimberly Whitfield; her parents; two brothers, Prince Ruppert Guilford, Jr and James Guilford; and two sisters, Delores Guilford and Dorian Ford.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10am at the DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland. Cookie will be laid to rest at Siloam Cemetery, Vineland. Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday morning from 9am to 10am at the funeral home. Please visit www.dlfuneral.com to send condolences to the family.
