Adolph Ricker Obituary

New London - Adolph Carl Ricker III, born Oct 20, 1945, died peacefully Aug. 10, 2019, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London after 73 years of a successful and happy life.

Carl was the son of Estelle Van Pelt of Groton and Adolph Carl Ricker, Jr. of Staten Island, N.Y.

His death followed a series of illnesses that resulted in a stroke from which he did not recover. He was treated (wonderfully) at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital where after multiple surgeries, he appeared to stabilize, but his vitals continued to deteriorate.

Carl Graduated from New Dorp High School in Staten Island, N.Y. in 1963. He began his career with Norton Lily Shipping on Wall St. He eventually had his own company with his life partner Bill Hughes called Cedardale shipping. He moved to New London to semi-retire and worked part of the time for the Fisher Island Ferry.

Carl is survived by his brothers, Robert Ricker of Salem S.C., and Kenneth Ricker of Lincoln City Ore. Carl is preceded in death by his brothers, Bruce Ricker of Cambridge Mass., and Randy Ricker of Staten Island, N.Y.; and his life partner, Bill Hughes of New York, N.Y.

Adolph Carl Ricker walked in love, grateful for and delighted by, the beauty and kindness he met on his way. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. We will miss him more than words can say.

He will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered in the sea.

Funeral service is private. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of the donors choice.

I grew up with Carl when we both lived in Oakwood. We were in a singing group together, I made my first professional recording together with Carl, and we went to McKee High School together until we both transferred to New Dorp H.S.

Carl was a good person with a good heart and loved to laugh. Even when he suffered substantial serious injuries as a result of falling into a concrete pit when he was about 16, he still displayed his great sense of humor.

Although we lost touch with each other for many years, we did get in contact a few years ago, but never did get to see each other in person, again. I regret that.

My most sincere condolences to his brothers Bob and Kenny.
