Casimir Kalafarski Obituary

East Lyme - Casimir Peter Kalafarski, 88, of West Ridge Circle, Niantic, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

Born in Gilbertville, Mass., on April 6, 1922, he was the son of Wojciech and Anna (Lysik) Kalafarski. A talented violinist, he was named the concertmaster of the New London Symphony at 16 years of age. He graduated from the Bulkeley School in New London in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. A veteran of World War II, Casimir received two Purple Hearts and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor in combat.

On June 4, 1950, he married Mary Lech.

In 1987, Casimir, known to his co-workers as "Pete," retired after 46 years of service with Electric Boat as a design supervisor in naval architecture.

Casimir is survived by his wife, Mary (Lech) Kalafarski of Niantic and a son, Brian Kalafarski and his wife, Susan Wyatt, of Milford, Mich. He is also survived by four daughters, Lynn D'Angelo and husband, Christopher, of North Stonington, Janet Montano and husband, Richard, of Bloomfield, Diane Onorato and husband, Robert, of Wilmington, Del., Annette Filena and husband, Bruce, of Fremont, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister, Fernanda (Kalafarski) Wallace.

Casimir was remembered with full military honors prior to internment in St. Mary's Mausoleum in New London.

I was saddened to hear of your father's passing. I liked the picture in the paper. He was a handsome man. You resembled him. He must have been at Bulkley School the same time as my father.
