Mario Amaral Obituary
Mario was married to Nancy (Main) Amaral for nearly 33 years. They were married on Oct. 20, 1979, at Union Baptist Church in Mystic.
Mr. Amaral was employed by American Velvet Co., as a supervisor for over 35 years. Mario and his family moved to Virginia in 1997, when the company relocated to Blackstone. When American Velvet was sold to Archstar, Mario continued working for the company until his illness.
Mario was the son of the late Frank Leite and Maria Christina (Sineiro) Amaral. Mario grew up in Mystic, the ninth of 10 children born into a close knit Portuguese family.
In addition to this wife, Mario is survived by his son, James Hamilton Amaral and his wife, Lisa Barber Amaral, of Victoria. Mario was the beloved "Papa" to his grandchildren, Cody and Brooke Amaral, also of Victoria. Mario is also survived by his three brothers, Joe (Zelinda) of Pawcatuck, Tony (Teresa) of North Stonington, and George (Thora) Amaral of Groton; his five sisters, Paulina (Joe) Cruz of Mystic, Maria Mitchell of Noank, Judy (Bill) Mitchell, Eva (Jack) DaSilva, and Maxine Barrett, all of Mystic. He also leaves 27 devoted nieces and nephews; 51 great nieces and nephews; and his in-laws, Harold and Diana Main of Narragansett, R.I.
In addition to his parents, Mario was predeceased by his sister, Isabel Policarpo and her husband, Joe; his nephew, Louis Mitchell Jr.; and his two brothers-in-law, Charles G. Barrett Jr. and Louis Mitchell Sr.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
