Walter Kordys Obituary

Southington - Walter E. Kordys, 86, of Southington, died peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Apple Rehab Farmington Valley in Plainville.

Born on May 21, 1925, to the late Paul and Bridgette (Swistak) Kordys, he had been a lifelong Southington resident. He leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Joan (Facius) Kordys.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian (Ziel) Kordys.

Walter graduated from Wilcox Trade School in 1943. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He was employed by Arrigoni Construction and worked on the Hall Avenue and Paddock Avenue bridges. He then worked for C.F. Wooding Co. as a master carpenter and served as a general superintendent, overseeing the construction of the Crystal Mall in Waterford, until his retirement in 1984.

He was an active member of St. Dominic's Parish in Southington, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 24, and the American Legion Kiltonic Post 72. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan.

In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by his son, Paul Kordys of Groton; two grandchildren, Christopher Kordys of Chicago, Ill., and Jennifer Kordys of Portland, Conn.; a great-grandson, Colin Kordys of Portland; a step-son, Isha Murphy of Cromwell; a step-daughter, Deborah Murphy of South Windsor; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Walter was one of eight children. He also leaves behind his brother, Edward Kordys and sister, Harriet Dominello, both of Southington.

He was predeceased by four sisters, Katherine Frederick and husband, Milton, Helen Swiatek and husband, Walter, Betty Pernal and husband, John, Stella Budnick and husband, Eddie; and a brother, Joseph Kordys and wife, Katherine. He was also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Mildred Kordys and brother-in-law, Salvatore Dominello.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter's memory may be made to St. Dominic's Church, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington CT 06489. A private funeral service was held at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville CT 06479.

I was sorry to hear about Uncle Walter; he was a great uncle and I will always remember the picnics at his house and at my grandparents house on Sunday. Aunt Joan and Paul please accept my condolences and my prayers are with you. I have a minister friend who will say prayers for you and the family. Loe, Denise

We are so sorry for you loss. Walt was a good friend and working companion of my dad, Charles Kondracki, who just recently passed on also. They will both be missed and maybe team up and do more of their "Master Carpenter Work".

Dear Joan & Paul,
We were saddedned to hear of Uncle Walt's death. He was a wonderful man, special brother and great uncle. We all have nice memories of our holiday picnics and Sunday dinners at grandma and jojus.
He was so kind to visit Uncle Sal during his illness and we appreciated it so much. He will be in our prayers.
