Evelyn Thompson

1919 - 2016

Evelyn Grace Thompson age 96 passed away peacefully on May 13, 2016, in Rancho Mirage, Ca. Born in Tucson, Arizona on July 10, 1919, to George and Rosetta Boomer; She came to Indio, Ca. in 1920. She married her husband Russell Thompson October 4, 1941.

She attended local elementary schools in the Valley and graduated from Coachella Valley High School in 1937. She served the City of Indio for years as Treasurer and was a founding member of the CV museum board. She also worked for Desert Sands School District as an accountant for over 33 years. She was a member of the Eastern Stars in Coachella and also The Rebekah's.

Evelyn is survived by her son Paul (Nancy) Thompson of Indio, Ca. and four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell in 1989 and her daughter Roselyn Gay and her parents.

The family would like to thank all the Care Givers with Omega Hospice and Lisa Ziomek of Covenant Senior Care for their wonderful care and attention given to Evelyn.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00 am, at Shepherd of the Valley Methodist Church in Indio, Ca. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Coachella Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations to THE HERITAGE FUND at The Coachella Valley Historical Museum would be appreciated.

My deepest sympathy and prayers to you. The loss of Evie brings great sadness to those of us left behind. She was so full of life and such a great lady. I had the privilege of working with her at Desert Sands and becoming her friend. Those years were some of the best of my working career. She will be greatly missed.

Dearest Evelyn, I remember you most from coming to the basketball games at Indio High when Phyllis and I would sell tickets and you would cheer on Paul's team. We had such fun in those days. Phyllis moved to Pennsylvania and we moved to Alabama but you and your son Paul and his family are in my heart forever. You will be missed. Linda Swafford

I will always remember my first days in our new home across the street from you and you offered to lend me your ladder as I was trying to clean my windows. Our shipping container had not arrived yet. On behalf of my Father, Robert Allison & the Allison Family, I would like to send our condolences. Evenly was a dear friend of our Mothers ( Babbie Allison, who just recently passed away herself). My Mom had so many great memories with her and The "Lunch Bunch." The women of the Lunch Bunch made time to meet once a month for lunch all the way up until about 6 months ago. They were dedicated to their friendship. I'd like think, the Lunch Bunch will all be together someday in Heaven, giggling, laughing and having a good 'ol time.

What a lady! I was a true fan and had much love for this woman. Growing up across the alley from Paul and Nancy Thompson in Indio, I spent much time at the Thompson house, which led to meeting Grandma Thompson (as I used to call her). Full of life and giver of great hugs...that's the lady I knew and how I will always remember her. So sorry for her loss but thankful that wonderful memories of her will live on for many many more years to come. Big love to the Thompson family! XO
