Howard Fleischman Obituary

Our beloved Howard Arthur will be greatly missed. He passed to a better place on Jan. 7, 2009. He was a devoted husband to Audrey Jean for over 50 years and devoted father to Shari, Steve Fleischman (Julie) and Susan (Fleischman) Zollars (Terry). He is survived by all his children, his wife, his brother Robert J. Fleischman (Linda). "Papa Howard" was adored by his 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Howard was born and raised in New York. At 18 years old he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was a member of the 509th composite group. After his duty in the South Pacific, Howard moved to Los Angeles. Around 1954 Howard revolutionized the way Men's Clothing was displayed in retail stores by inventing SLACRAC. For over 30 years, with his brother Robert, they ran Fleischman Industries, manufacturing The Fleischman SLACRAC and other inventive ideas that are in use today for men's and women's clothing display. In continuing his entrepreneurial spirit, Howard semi-retired to Palm Desert, CA in 1986 and purchased Country Club Packaging, Postal & 1Hr Photo, which he ran for 18 years. He enjoyed the time he spent as a docent at the Palm Springs Air Museum. He was a volunteer with his wife Audrey at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage for the last several years until his passing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Eisenhower Memorial Hospital, 39000 Bob Hope Dr., Rancho Mirage, CA 92270.
