Libby Hughes Obituary

Libby Hughes passed away at her home in Cambridge, Mass. on Feb. 10, 2010. She was a prolific writer of 44 plays, 22 books and the musical, "Ginger and Me" that she produced in Palm Desert in 2008. She has received many awards including the Maxwell Playwrights Series in 1984, winner of Boston's New Opera and Musical Theater Initiative in 2000 and in 2001 her lyrics claimed first prize in the Eventide Arts Festival songwriting contest. She is listed in the "Who's Who of American Women" and the "World Who's Who of Women." She won the Life Achievement Award from Emma Willard School in June of 2005. She is survived by two loving children, Wendy and Mark; and five beautiful grandchildren. She will be missed by all of her many friends as well as her friend Sally, who shared richly in the adventure travel, friendship and togetherness on many continents, including countess trips cross country and visits to each others' homes, all with unending humor and not one harsh word. A musical tribute will be held April 3, 2010 at Sally Gessford's home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Pease call 760-218-0083 if you would like to attend.

Thank you Sally for initiating a guest book for Libby Hughes. Libby and I met when she and John Hughes married, and as I was a colleague of John's on "The Christian Science Monitor" for some 15 years, Libby and I developed a strong and worm friendship. I love Mark and Wendy, and know what a great help they have been to Libby for years and years. When Libby's first play was having its first public review, I was with Libby, and marveled at her parescience.
Cynia Parsons, now in Scottsdale, AZ, but loved having all Hughes join me for 37 years at my one-room Vermont schoolhouse in the tiny Gassetts hamlet.
