November 18, 1932 - March 15, 2024

George Webster Latimer, Jr was born to George and Rhoda Caroll Latimer, Sr on November 18, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah.  George passed from death to life and entered his heavenly home on March 15, 2024.

He and his family lived in Salt Lake City until George's father was appointed U.S. Court of Military Appeals Judge and the family was moved to Washington D.C.  While living there, George Jr. received a full undergraduate scholarship to George Washington University as well as a full scholarship to Princeton where he received a doctorate in physical/analytical chemistry.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1957 and rose to the rank of Colonel, retiring after 31 years of service.  

George joined the Office of the Texas State Chemist, a $2.5-million agency of Texas A&M University, as chief of Agricultural Analytical Service in 1986.  He was selected as State Chemist/Adjunct Professor in 1990.

Dr. Latimer had been active in the Associations of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and Plant Food Control Officials (AAPFCO) chairing and as a member of many committees, including Chair of the AAFCO Feed Check Sample Program. He is a Past President of AAPFCO (1997); an Associate Referee, Sampling; and a General Referee for Analytical Methods for Feed and Fertilizer (1991-1995) and Commodities (2004).  He had also been very active with AOAC INTERNATIONAL as a journal editor and helped create and then served on the Board of Directors for the Technical Division for Laboratory Management from 1996-2002.  He was a Fellow of AOAC and Past President of the Southwest Regional Section, AOAC from 1989-1990.  After 18 years of service in the Office of the State Chemist, George retired in August of 2004.

He loved to read historical non-fiction and he knew his Bible well; he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He preferred to listen to classical music and old hymns and attended church every Sunday.  He was a prolific writer of plays and short stories, had an amazing mind and memory, and was a great Bridge partner.

George is survived by many who loved him dearly and are so proud of him; his wife, Rexanna; children, Marsha Rarer, Webster Latimer, Gregory Latimer, Stephen Savage, Gregory Savage (deceased), and Kimberly Savage; grandchildren, Emily Savage, Dakotah Brown Savage, Chelstie Diaz, Bill Lockoff Jr, and Chelsea Leija; brother, Dr. Ronald Latimer and wife, Beverlie, as well as their children; and many other family members. 

A Celebration of Life Reception will take place April 4, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Grace Bible Church - Anderson, 700 Anderson St, College Station Texas, 77840.
