Ruth Clark Obituary

July 26, 1921 - July 12, 2008

Ruth Dobson Clark, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Kruse Village in Brenham. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the College Station City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

Ruth was born July 26, 1921, in Pickens County, S.C. to Edna and William C. Dobson. She graduated from Central High School and received her nursing degree from Greenville General Hospital in Greenville, S.C. Immediately upon graduation, she entered the Army Nurse Corp. and served as a surgical nurse during World War II in North Africa, Italy, and the Phillipines.

Upon returning home from the war in 1945, Ruth married Walter R. (Peck) Clark and moved to Chambers County, Texas, where she served the community as the only nurse in the east end of the county, taking blood pressures, administering injections, and evaluating patients for distant doctors. Eventually, she became the operating room supervisor for Chambers Memorial Hospital in Anahuac, Texas, where she served for many years. She also served for a short time as the nursing supervisor for the Winnie-Stowell Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, Walter R. Clark, of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Mike Hoelscher, of College Station; granddaughter and husband, Jennie Hoelscher and Jody Hughes; grandson, Matt Hoelscher, of Conroe; brothers, W.C. Dobson, of Santa Fe, N.M., Frank B. Dobson, of Jacksonville, Fla., Robert T. Dobson, of Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kruse Village in Brenham and Hospice Brenham for the many kindnesses they bestowed on our loved one.

Memorials can be made to Hospice Brazos Valley by visiting their website at www.hospicebrazosvalley.org.
