Died: October 8, 2016; in Joliet, IL
Robert L. "Bob" Gray, age 71, U.S. Army Reservist 1967-1968, a resident of Crest Hill, IL, formerly of Winfield, IL and Jackson, TN, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. He was born July 24, 1945 in Jackson, TN.
Beloved husband of Sandra Gray (nee Courage), whom he married September 28, 1968; loving father of Dan Gray of Gilbert, AZ and Lisa (Peter) Holloway of Plainfield; adored grandfather of Holly, Katie and Jack Holloway; devoted son of the late Cecil and Bonnie Gray; dear brother of Gwen (Erv) Leifheit of Surprise, AZ, Shelia (the late James) Nance of Atwater, CA and Rickie (Sandra) Gray of Joliet, IL; son-in-law of Olive June Smith of Plainfield; fond uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.
Bob moved from Tennessee to Plainfield at the age of ten and was a 1963 graduate of Plainfield Township High School. He received a BA at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL and later attended the Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where he completed the Executive Management Program.
Bob began his work career with Illinois Bell and later was employed with Federal Signal Corporation from 1979-1993 where he served as President of the Sign Group. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Electric Sign Association (now known as the International Sign Association). Bob owned and operated Culinary Enterprises in Naperville, a corporate catering company, from 1995-2011.
Bob enjoyed golfing and was the most loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
Visitation Thursday, October 13, 2016, 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Road, (Corner of Rts. 59 & Rt. 30), Plainfield, IL 60544. Family and friends will meet for graveside services on Friday, October 14, 11:00 AM at Plainfield Township Cemetery, Plainfield, IL.
