Susan Wiers Obituary

Susan Kathleen Wiers (nee Lingrel)
Born on May 13, 1947, Sue passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, December 9, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Sue is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Larry; her three precious children, son, Dave (late Kim); daughters, Karrie Racutt (Jason) and Kylie Macklin (Brendan); grandchildren, Tyler, Tanya and Tori Thorson, Jordan, Jaelyn and Jaxen Wiers, Max and Samuel Racutt; sisters, Karen Dillon and Jan Payne (Dennis), and numerous nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Winona Lingrel; her brother, John Lingrel; and her most special and adored daughter-in-law, Kim.
Sue was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Felsburg. Pennsylvania. During her junior year in high school, her Dad was transferred to the U.S. Steel Mill in Joliet. 2 years later she met Larry and 3 years later in 1970 they were married in the Cathedral of St. Raymond. First and foremost in Sue's life was her adoring and unending love of her children and grandchildren. She had a love for them that was beyond all measure. She especially cherished her role as Grandma. She never missed any of her grandkids' events and enjoyed vacationing with them to Disney World, Disney Cruises, Wisconsin Dells, Cooperstown, Northern Bay and numerous trips to Simonton Lake. She loved her grandkids to the moon and back.
Sue was a graduate of Joliet West High School and earned her Associates Degree at Joliet Junior College. Among the many jobs she had, she most enjoyed her work in schools and churches. She was a P.E. Instructor for St. Mary Immaculate School in Plainfield and later the Business Manager in that same parish. After the 1990 tornado, Sue lent valuable assistance in the rebuild of the parish church. Sue also was the bookkeeper for the Southern Will County Cooperative for Special Education and for Channahon School District 17. She joyously concluded her career as the Director of Finance for Holy Family Parish in Shorewood.
Sue's passions were horses, crafting, antiquing, shopping, exercising, do-it-yourself home improvement projects, roller coasters, water slides, yardwork, gardening, and teaching children and adults how to swim both at the Y and in the family backyard,
Sue was a woman of deep faith and modeled for all of our family how to live a Christian life. She was self-less, incredibly generous with her time, talent and treasure and was a good friend to many. She proudly gave financial assistance for the construction of the Sue and Larry Wiers Counseling Wing of Healing at Guardian Angel Community Services and established the Susan Lingrel Wiers Scholarship for deserving Culinary Arts students at Joliet Junior College. It was not uncommon for Sue to befriend any person in need and financially help them.
Sue's family is profoundly grateful for the compassionate care Lightways Hospice provided, especially from Holly and Melissa. A very special "thank you" to Sue's caregivers, Dee, Shakenya, Kathy and granddaughters Tanya, Jaelyn and family friend, Carol Embling.
