David Edward Ladewig
David Edward Ladewig passed peacefully with his family by his side on September 23, 2022. Born July 26, 1941 in Winchester, Massachusetts, David is predeceased by his parents, Edward Garner Ladewig and Eleanor Van Stone Ladewig, and his sister, Margot "Punky" Miles. David spent his early years as a child in Chappaqua, New York and Ridgefield, Connecticut, with summers spent at Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks. During summers on Saranac Lake, he developed a love of boating and waterskiing and an appreciation for hard work as a bellboy at the Saranac Inn. David attended The Gunnery in Washington, Connecticut, where he excelled in athletics, becoming the first three-season athlete elected team captain to the baseball, football, and basketball teams in his senior year. He went on to attend Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where he made life-long friendships with his fraternity brothers at Alpha Delta Phi, and graduated in 1964 with a degree in History. At 6'6" tall, he was known to his fraternity brothers as "Tiny" and remained close to his band of brothers throughout his life. After graduation, David followed his father's legacy in business, who was the president of Bristol Myers, with a career in marketing at both Bristol Myers and Proctor and Gamble. He helped to make Oil of Olay a leading cosmetic with international success. With simple tastes and a sincere heart, he was always glad to share his opinion about politics, sports, or the financial markets. A man without pretense, David wasn't much concerned with what others thought of him, but he was always generous and made a few deep friendships throughout his life. David's greatest passion was spending summers with his family at camp on Saranac Lake where he loved hosting friends and teaching countless guests how to water ski. In addition to his parents and sister, David is predeceased by his second wife, Mary Doukas Ladewig. He is survived and will be fondly remembered by his first wife, Stephanie Close, his children, Kim Risley (Dane) and Brian Ladewig (Nicole), and his grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, and Kate Risley, and his nieces Ashley Henrichon and Meredith Tibbs.
