Vermelle "Mel" Miro, long time resident of Westport, Connecticut passed away peacefully on August 27, 2021, surrounded by family.
Mel was born January 29, 1933 in Greenwich, Connecticut to Samuel and Angela Caputo. Mel had a variety of different hobbies, interests and career paths throughout her lifetime. She spent the early days of her career at Vogue before opening and running The Westport Country Day Preschool in the 1970s. Mel then became a realtor in Westport in the 1980s and enjoyed a successful career until she retired close to 40 years later. Mel was also a member of the Westport Young Woman's League and the Westport Rotary Club for a number of years, in addition to taking part in numerous charitable organizations throughout her life in town.
Mel took great joy in traveling around the world, learning about different cultures and viewing famous pieces of art. She was also born a talented artist and spent time painting many cherished works of art, all of which are enjoyed by her family and friends today. Mel also had a unique ability to connect with people on a deep level, providing a safe haven for her community of friends and acquaintances. She was a magnet to others and always willing to lend an ear to those who needed it. Though Mel led a wonderful life, filled with professional achievements, fulfilling friendships, and colorful experiences, her greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren.
Mel is survived by her children, Donald Miro and Kim Healy; her son-in-law, Chris Healy; her grandchildren Ryan Healy, Tyler Healy, and Brittany Healy and her grandson-in-law, Steve Geiges. Mel is predeceased by her husband, Donald Miro and her long time partner, Patrick Mitchell. A service will be held at a later date.
