Allan Mix Obituary
Freeville: Allan James Mix, 56, of Freeville, passed away unexpectedly on December 12, 2012. He was the son of the late Earl R. and Iva "Peachie" Madison Mix. He was an avid bowler who had many 300 games in his career; He was inducted into the Ithaca USBC Hall of Fame in 1987 for his Superior performance. Mixxy had bowled in Multiple leagues and Tournaments in Ithaca, Cortland and Groton. He will be deeply missed by the bowling Community. He also loved golf and fishing. Al was a big NY Giants and NY Yankees fan. Survivors include his beloved wife of 21 years, Lucy A. Newhart Mix; daughters, Rachel and Marissa Mix; a brother, Richard (Beverly) Mix; and sister, Linda Morena; in addition to his in-laws, Vic and Martha Newhart. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, December, 17, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at LakeWatch Inn with Pastor Bill Lower officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tompkins Trust Company in care of Scott Albanse for educational funds for Rachel and Marissa Mix or to a charity of one's choice. Bangs Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lucy, so sorry to hear about Al. We and the crew from Cactus Jacks had so much fun back in the 80's. I remember his parents and the pawn shop. I remember being in his folks house on S. Plain St. I remember when he fell in love with you and when being with you was more important than being with the gang from the bar. Please accept my condolences. To the Mix family,
Al and I were friends since childhood. Even as a young boy he was kind, caring, funny, and just a nice person to be around. These are traits he carried throughout his life. It was always a pleasure and a joy to run into him, usually at a golf course, and chat. It was quite evident that he adored and was very proud of his family. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I remember Allie many many years ago, living down the street from me on Hancock Street in Ithaca. In those days, Allie was my good friend. Over time, one loses touch with those we once knew. I was sorry to hear of Allie's passing. I am glad to now know that he married and raised a beautiful family. May you remember him in your hearts as each day passes, for it will eventually become easier to realize he is in a much better place. Allie will be missed.

Al did everything bigger than big. He had chased after the elusive perfect 900 series his whole life. While coming ever so close many times, it eluded him. His passing on the date of 12-12-12 is tragic and very sad for all but, that date is significant for a bowler. Does that date contain a hidden message when deciphered?
There are 12 strikes in one perfect/300 game and the date 12-12-12 equates to him finally achieving his quest for the elusive and perfect 3-game series of 900 or 36 strikes in a row.
Al has now conquered the ultimate goal in the game of bowling, perfection!

Lucy and girls; I can't even express how my heart aches or how shocked I was to hear about Ally Op. My heart goes out to you all! Al was such a huge part of my life as a child and most of my adult life. In the last few years as life sometimes goes we didn't see each other on a regular basis but, when we ran into each other it was like nothing had changed! We had always been like brother and sister. Al was like a big gentle teddy bear. I loved him with my whole heart! I will never forget all that we shared and learned together thru the years!
