ANN MARIE GOSS
TOWN OF TONAWANDA - Ann Marie Goss of the Town of Tonawanda, a longtime teacher in the Amherst Central School District, died March 8, 2005, at home under the care of Hospice Buffalo after a lengthy illness. She was 61.She was born Ann Marie Mars in Ithaca. She earned a bachelor's degree at Buffalo State College.Mrs. Goss began her teaching career in the Amherst district in 1965. She taught in several other upstate New York school districts before returning to Amherst schools in 1973.She taught at Windermere Boulevard School and Amherst Middle School until 1999. Following her retirement, she worked for Buffalo State as a supervisor of student teachers until her illness forced her to retire in 2003.During her career in Amherst, Mrs. Goss introduced the Electronic Bookshelf program and a new, hands-on science program in the middle school. She received the Jenkins Award from the Amherst PTA for excellence in teaching.She served as a reviewer for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and worked as a mentor to candidates seeking board certification.As an area representative for the American Intercultural Student Exchange for many years, she placed students from Europe and Asia with dozens of families in Western New York.Mrs. Goss and her husband, William, were longtime Buffalo Bills season-ticket holders.In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Sean of Winter Park, FL, Michael of Kenmore and Timothy of Seattle; a daughter, Kathleen of Cleveland; and four grandchildren; and by a brother, Joseph Mars of Endicott. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Ann Mars.A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday in the Newman Center Chapel, Frontier Road, Amherst, near the University at Buffalo North Campus.
