BILL BURNS Obituary
McALLEN - Bill Lamar Burns, a well-known farmer and businessman, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at his home in McAllen, Texas. Bill was born July 24, 1931 near San Perlita, Texas and graduated from Raymondville High School. He was one of five children born to the late Felix and Ella Mae Bums and is survived by his brothers Don (Lila) and Sandy (Susan) Bums, sisters Bobbie Jean Spruiell and Brenda Blythe, his sons Chris (Margaret), Sandy (Leslie) and Kent (Virginia) Bums, his grandchildren Luke, Dylan, Zack, Logan, Matt and Bailey Bums, along with countless other friends and family.
Bill farmed for more than 60 years in Willacy and Hidalgo Counties. He loved the land and greatly enjoyed photographing wildlife at his ranch north of Edinburg. Many of his photographs won awards in the Valley Land Fund photo contest. Several years ago Bill
placed a beautiful cross that stands 125 feet in the sky on his ranch near Faysville, Texas. Every night the cross shines a bright blue and has become a welcoming and comforting landmark to the community.
Bill touched the lives of many people and maintained his sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, May 12th at 10:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM at the North Mission Church of Christ, 1410 Buddy Owens Ave (also known as 3 Mile Line) between Bryan and Stewart Roads. The family requests donations to be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation RGV, 1 Park Place, Suite 405, McAllen, Texas 78503. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen.

I remember when we were at Milam (in '67) how the gang would hang out at your house; your parent's always welcomed everyone in their home. I have many fond memories Chris. My thought's and prayer's are with you and your family. Rest In Peace, Mr. Burns.

Mr. Burns always commented on the kindness of my dad in past years. We have always appreciated the kindness that he has shown to us in farming his land in Raymondville. He will be greatly missed. We offer our sympathy to his family at this time.

A small space cannot do justice to such a large man. He tried to keep a rather low profile to protect himself, but those who he touched certainly know well his intellect, courage, tenacity, vision, insight, judgment, honesty and sense-of-humor. I am proud to count myself among the many persons who were benefactors of his skills, his generosity and his loyalty.
Few men have risen from such humble beginnings to such a respectable status in modern times. Although he excelled in real estate and stock market investments, he was most at home on the farm where he was a master and a perfectionist. Setting a planter, digger or cultivator was his specialty
Bill has had respect for religion from his early years. Surely the Good Lord has provided him a few tools, some seed and a fertile field for his enjoyment up there. My loss is Heaven's gain.

Mr. Burns,
I never met you, but want to thank you for the beautiful Cross. My husband and I travel alot and every time we pass by the Cross, we wondered who had built it, now we know. I look forward to seeing the Cross, leaving Edinburg and on our return trip. It gives us hope. With tears in my eyes, we will forever cherish the Cross. Our condolences to the Family.

I will always remember that time we were at your home and getting ready to go somewhere but we had to wait until Nolan Ryan got his 5000 strikeout - we watched the whole game until it happened and then celebrated! I learned what it was to love the game! I will always love you and think about you every time I watch baseball!
