McAllen - Carmen Patricia Daley(née Crosdale) transitioned from this life that she had lived for 87 years and 2 days to her eternal rest. She has been freed from illness, pain and the confines of her earthly body, and, as a faithful follower of her Savior, we know that her absence from her body means that she is present with her Lord.
Carmen was born on 11/09/1935 in Morant Bay, St Thomas, Jamaica, W.I., to Joannah Brown and Herbert Crossdale, her wonderful parents, who she loved and honored. She also spent a large part of her formative years with our now deceased family matriarch Clarice Davis, from whom she learned many life lessons which helped to mold her into the woman she became.
She married the love of her life, Stanford Alexander Daley at age 22 and Hearther Daley-Leach and Simone Raquel Daley were the fruits of their union. She also mothered her stepdaughter, Lorna Elaine Daley. Her husband unfortunately predeceased her after 47 years of marriage and she has been the family's tower of strength, not only to her children, but to her grand children, sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Carmen attended the Morant Bay and Cedar Valley Elementary schools in St Thomas, and excelled in the standardized exams of the time. She attended Kingston Technical High school and earlier in her career, taught elementary school, and then started her career in the Jamaica Postal Service where she worked for many years in different capacities within the organization.
She migrated to the United States in 1972 and has spent the greater part of her life in this country. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for several years and then pursued a career in nursing which had been her goal, all this while working full time and parenting. She was very strong willed and determined and received her nursing license and worked in this capacity until her retirement. This was very fulfilling for her in her quest to provide care and love through her service to others.
Carmen is part of a large family and was known to most in her generation and thereafter for her willingness to help others, to give advice, her warmth, love, kindness and dedication to her family and friends. She had a 'servant' heart. She was the true Proverbs 31 woman. She also had a great sense of humor and was a pleasure to be around. She was an excellent mother and grandmother and went above and beyond in her nurturing of her family. She was truly a Blessing to all with whom she interacted and was loved, honored and respected by family and friends alike.
Carmen is known as Mama, Mama Carms, Nana, Grandma, Sister Carmen, Sister Carms, Carms, Auntie Carmen, Auntie, Mama Daley, MamaD, Ms.D, and Mother D. She is survived by her daughter Hearther Daley-Leach and son in law Owen Leach, daughter Simone Raquel Daley, daughter Lorna Elaine Daley; grandchildren Marcus, Teshai, Craig, Christian, Jayda, Jamaal, Nicole, Malik and Durif; great grandchildren, Jamaal Jr., Alex, Makayla, Carmen, Kamali, Melechi, Chotsani, and Paige. There are countless nieces, nephews and cousins who are loved and very special, but too numerous to mention in this setting. Of course there are so many friends who she loved and who loved her, who are again impossible to mention on this platform
Rest In Peace, Miss Carms, we know you are at peace. You said you were ready to see your Jesus and we can take comfort in the fact that you are reunited with Him, and we trust and hope that we will meet again.
Visitation will be November 22, 2022 from 4pm to 8pm, with a funeral service at 6pm, at Baptist Temple in McAllen, TX. Burial will be in Jamaica.
