Leopoldo Ramirez Obituary

Galveston - Leopoldo Ramirez, a beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, great-grandfather, loyal friend, and esteemed veteran, passed away on October 28, 2023 at the age of 90, in Galveston, Texas. Born on February 27, 1933 in Penitas, Texas, Leopoldo led a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and selflessness. Leopoldo was born to his proud parents, Jose and Clotilde Ramirez. He was born and raised in Penitas, Texas on a family working ranch. There, he developed a strong sense of responsibility and a deep appreciation for family values. From an early age, Leopoldo displayed an unwavering commitment to duty, honor, and service. In 1951, Leopoldo joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. His dedication and bravery were evident as he fulfilled his tour of duty with great courage and distinction. His time in the Air Force and later in the Air National Guard, not only molded him into a disciplined man but also instilled in him a passion for civic duty that remained a guiding principle leading him to rise to Fire Chief at Ellington Air Force Base as a civil servant. He retired federal civil service and joined the Harris County Sheriff's Department as a Sheriff Deputy serving for 12 years. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason out of the South Houston Blue Lodge #1295. Leopoldo married Maria del Carmen Gutierrez on May 19, 1957 in Penitas, Texas.

Those that preceded him in death are: parents Jose and Clotilde Ramirez, sister Maria Ramirez, brothers Leonel Ramirez, Leobardo Ramirez, Leonardo Ramirez, Domingo Ramirez and infant brother Jose Angel Ramirez.

Those left to treasure his memory are his wife of 66 years, Maria del Carmen Ramirez. Children: Rolando (Rosario) Ramirez, Rosalva (Armando) Perez, Sandra (Rene) Damian, Sylvia (Arnoldo) Lopez and Lydia (Mario) Fernandez. Brothers Jose Ramirez, Jr. and Santos Ramirez. Sisters Lydia Leonor Mercado, Marta Nichols, Maria Garcia Mora and Dalila Garcia, grandchildren: Sonia Ramirez, Roland Ramirez, Michelle (Aaron) Lockwood, Veronica (Jason) Love, Dr. Jessica (Patrick) Shimek, Christopher (Lori) Lopez, Jennifer (Quinton) Alexander, Lorraine (Jordan) Lopez, Andrew (Ruby) Fernandez, Dr. Christian Damian, Mark Fernandez, Jared Damian, Emily Fernandez, and Lauren Damian. Great grandchildren: Jeremiah Love, Brielle Alexander, Izabelle Love, Emma Lockwood, Charlotte Lockwood, Nora Shimek, Leo Lopez, Wren Shimek, Tess Alexander, Emory LeBlanc, Jacob Fernandez, and Cruz Alexander. He was eagerly awaiting the upcoming births of two more great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. and the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Danbury, Texas. He will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery. Pallbearers are Roland Ramirez, Christopher Lopez, Andrew Fernandez, Mark Fernandez, Jared Damian, and Jeremiah Love.
