Silvestre Acevedo Obituary
WESLACO - Silvestre Acevedo Jr., 70, passed away to be with the Lord on Friday, December 19, 2008 at Knapp Medical Center. He was born December 6, 1938 in La Grulla, TX to Silvestre and Manuela Hernandez Acevedo. He lived in Weslaco, TX , here he raised his family. Silvestre was an active member of the community, a servant through his organization as the ex-president for Lulac Council 291. He enjoyed fishing and lending a helping hand to those in need. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Elida M. Acevedo of Weslaco, TX; 4 daughters, Berta Alicia Sosa, Manuela Padilla (Ramiro), Diana Rocha (Guadalupe), Flor Silvestre Arce all of Weslaco, TX; 1 step-daughter, Idolina M. Vasquez of Weslaco, TX; 4 brothers, Juan Angel Hernandez (Lucia), Jose Ismael "Prieto" Hernandez both of McAllen, TX, Noe Guadalupe "Guero" Hernandez (Ramona) of Palm View, TX, and Raul Mora of Mission, TX; 3 sisters, Guadalupe "Lupita" Martinez (Francisco) of Beth, MI, Estela Morin (Oscar+) of Weslaco, TX and Juanita Solis (Oscar) of Alto Bonito, TX; also surviving are 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today, Saturday, December 20, 2008 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2008, with a 7 p.m. rosary both nights at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of The Angels. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2008, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Weslaco City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Padilla, Joey Padilla, Ramiro Padilla Jr., Artemio Salazar, Silvestre T. Sosa and Guadalupe Rocha Jr. Arrangements are under the direction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco.
