Everett Carl "Buster" Roof

Everett Carl "Buster" Roof, 92, of Elizabethtown, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown.

He was a native of Hudson. He and his wife, Lila Dennis Roof, were longtime members of Hudson Community Church in Breckinridge County and had a very blessed ministry as members of the Hudson Gospel Five and the Gospel Travelers gospel music groups. He was retired from Campbell Hausfield after working 25 years at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company before the company's move to Georgia. He loved his wife, family, friends, church and community.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lila Jean Dennis Roof; a grandson, Christopher J. Speers; his parents, Inez Roof and George L. Roof; two sisters, Ruth Stice and Rhuelma Oller; and a brother, Norman G. Roof.

Survivors include three daughters, Sheila Speers and husband, Jim, Kimberly Hunt and husband, David, and Nancy Hatfield and husband, Billy; seven grandchildren, Brandon Speers, Stephanie Speers, Rebecca Miranda (Matthew), Joshua Aubrey (Rachael), Bradley Hunt (Aimee), Elizabeth Christensen (Dennis) and Holly Hatfield; 12 great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Ryker Speers, Brooklyn and Addy Aubrey, Riley, Camden and Connor Christensen, Audrey and Ella Hunt, Jackson, Colin and Vivian Miranda; a sister, Judy Roof Gentry; and many very wonderful friends and family.

The funeral is at 2 p.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 29, at Hudson Community Church with Pastor Jim McIntosh officiating. Burial follows in Hudson Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Thursday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown and continues from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT Friday at the church.
