Janet Coffman Obituary

Janet L. Coffman, loving wife and mother, 78, of Elizabethtown , passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Sam Swope Care Center in Louisville .

She was born in Confluence, Pa. Janet, a woman of strong faith was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, surrogate "Mom" and "Aunt Janet" to many more.

Janet's husband Ernest M. Coffman's Army assignment brought them to Kentucky which became their home for more than 60 years.

Janet was a member of the Stephensburg United Methodist Church . She worked outside the home for a number of years at Tinker's Crafts in Elizabethtown . She enjoyed gardening, quilting and baking, trying new things and going to new places.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Coffman; her parents, C.C. and Anna Reckner Show; and two brothers, Elwood Show of Pennsylvania and Charles Show of Elizabethtown .

She is survived by sister, Betty Show (Vyrl) Henry of Pennsylvania; two brothers, I.N. Show and James (Jean) Show, both of Ohio; four children, Doris ( Milton ) Smith of Franklin, Tenn., Libby (Bruce) Vickers of Elizabethtown, Barry (Michelle) Coffman of Whitehouse , Tenn., and Mark Coffman of Louisville ; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per Janet's request there will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at Hardin Memorial Park ; followed by celebratory gathering at The Brown-Pusey House after the service until 4 p.m. for family and friends.

Janet requested memorial contributions be sent to The American Cancer Society.

Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.

Doris Jean, Libby, Barry, and Mark...I know you all loved your Mother very much and she will be missed. I would have loved to have come to service but Slade has Baccalaureate at 3pm and National Honor Society at 6pm. Would have loved to seen everybody. Thinking of you in your time of sorrow.

I know she was a wonderful lady and she was a wonderful Mother. She raised four great children whom I have known since my childhood. She will be greatly missed. It is a comfort to know that a sunset in one land is a sunrise in another. God Bless You All

Janet was the sister I never had. We had over 40 years of a very close friendship. Our children grew up together I will miss her very much and look forward to the day we see each other again. I love you Janet!

Doris, Libby, Barry, and Mark I love Janet and you all dearly. I loved Ernie too. Janet and I met over 50 years ago and it was best friends for ever. I will miss her but I know she is in heaven and happy to be with your Dad. My prayer is that I will see her again.
