Charles Thacker Obituary

Charles Nemnich Thacker

Cleveland - Charles Nemnich Thacker, 81, a native of Danville, AR, and longtime resident of Cleveland, TN passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 19, 2021. While the end was sudden but peaceful, Charles had fought numerous life-threatening health battles over the years. He prevailed over a brain aneurysm in 1981 and used the time gifted to him by serving Jesus Christ, his family, and his fellow man. He received a kidney transplant from an anonymous donor on December 24, 2004. Again, he used this new chance at life to serve God and put others before himself. His positive Christian example, humor, grace, and kindness influenced countless others. This included the thousands of children he encountered performing eye screenings for Lions Club over 50 years in various towns in which he lived. When infirmity prevented him from doing the things he loved, he faced his challenges with grace, humility, and dignity. His positive attitude affected all around him.

He graduated from Neville High School in Monroe, LA, in 1957 and from Northeast Louisiana University in 1962. He had a long career with Louisiana Power and Light/Entergy Corporation serving in various roles throughout northeast Louisiana and southern Arkansas. He attained an MBA from NLU and then completed his working years as a certified financial planner with John Kelly and Associates in Monroe. Charles was an avid tennis player and enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He served in a variety of civic organizations in leadership roles. Though he moved with his career multiple occasions, he was fast to make friends and was always an active member of a local Baptist church. He was an ordained deacon and regular member of the church choir.

He was predeceased by his parents Clayborne Thacker and Louise Nemnich Wilson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Beth Thacker, son Dr. Chris (Stephanie) Thacker, and two grandchildren Lauren and Max Thacker.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday April 25, 2021, 5 P.M. at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cleveland Lions Club Vision Program P.O. Box 1521 Cleveland TN 37364 or Samaritan's Purse.

What a great, loving, kind man who was my uncle. I have such wonderful memories of you, uncle Charles. Always had a funny story, the trip to lake Bruin and all the holidays at Grans house. I will never forget them.
We will all miss you, but we know you are with our creator and in a whole lot better place. We will all be together one sweet day. Give all our loved ones a big hug for all of us and Rest In Peace.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss Mrs. Thacker. You and Mr. Charles were always the nicest people to be around in Winnsboro. Really enjoyed him helping the RA's at Winnsboro First Baptist Church and you being my teacher at the high school. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
