Rev. James Thomas Ferguson Sr., 88, of Flowery Branch, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Mrs. Judith Free "Judy" Ferguson.
Rev. Ferguson is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James T. "Tommy" Ferguson, Jr. and wife, Sara Ferguson, Flowery Branch, and Anthony M. "Tony" Ferguson and wife, Michelle Ferguson, Watkinsville; grandchildren, Wesley Ferguson (Brittany), Morgan Sarazin (Kyle), Mackenzie Ferguson, Connor Ferguson, Caleb Ferguson, and Georgia Deitz; two great grandchildren, Truett and Tenley Ferguson; sisters, Mary Ferguson, Elaine Grubbs, Ella Arnold, and Evelyn Tarrant; sister-in-law, Betty Cantrell; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
Rev. Ferguson was born on January 15, 1936 in Habersham County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Quinton Eugene and Etta Spencer Ferguson and brother of the late Betty Laprade Caudell, Sara Ferguson Hallford, Dorothy Ferguson Littleton, Irene Ferguson Shirley, and Frank Ferguson. He was a 1954 graduate of Tallulah Falls High School and served in the U.S. Army (1954-1957).
Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Ivy Creek Baptist Church, 2500 Ivy Creek Rd., Buford, Georgia 30519, with the Rev. Scott Sims and Rev. James Turpin officiating. Mr. Ferguson will lie in state from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens in Buford, Georgia. Graveside service by Dr. Craig Dale. The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, Georgia, from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024.
