Richard F. "Dick" Euler obituary, Commerce, MI

Richard Euler Obituary

of Bloomfield Hills passed away on October 11, 2023 at 91 strong. Dick led a blessed family life beginning with his marriage to his beloved wife Nancy for 67 years. Loving father of 3 children Richard (Tara) Euler, Mark (Margaret) Euler and Susan (Steve) Pearson. Proud grandfather of Richard and David Euler, Mark and Jenna Euler, and Brian (Caitlin) and Christine Pearson. Grateful great grandfather to our newest addition, Brooklyn. He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Genevieve Euler, and his sister Diane and her husband Lewis Wint. Dick was raised in Pontiac. He attended the University of Michigan followed by active duty in the Navy during the Korean conflict before graduating from Michigan State University. Dick spoke fondly of his service in the Navy and was an avid over the top lifelong fan of Michigan State. He began and finished his working career of 39 years with CNA Financial. During his career he took assignments in Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania (3x), Connecticut, New Jersey and Illinois. The learning point for all of us…relationships and friendships matter. He and Nancy made the effort to maintain these throughout their lives going back to childhood. It was nice to also see these reciprocated back to them. Dick was known as the "Madhatter" for wearing a hat or two just about anywhere and anytime. He had a collection of over 100. Mostly this generated smiles and conversation. In recognition of his 22-year cancer journey he was also known as "Timex Man" and the "Energizer Bunny". Regardless of the challenge, you couldn't keep him down. As an avid lifelong golfer, losing the use of one of his legs just meant a continually revised swing and the use of a cart. Retirement years were dedicated to spending time with family and volunteering. He started driving a bus for the local hospital the Monday after he retired. He was still actively volunteering with various organizations two months before his passing. Dick was active in the Christian community during his life and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pontiac. We are comforted to know that as a believer, October 11 was the best day of his life. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 12:30 pm at The Lafayette Grande Banquet Facility in Pontiac. Arrangements entrusted to the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston. Please leave a memory or condolence on the online guestbook www.wintfuneralhome.com.

Dick Euler and I graduated from Pontiac High School in June 1950, but we did not become friends until I joined the PHS Class of 1950 Reunion Committee in 2000 when we celebrated our 50th Class Reunion. We became friends (Dick, Nancy, Bruce and Maxine), and this close friendship grew over the years. Bruce had a lengthy journey with Alzheimer´s, and Dick became Bruce´s most constant visitor while he was living outside the home and when he came home for his last three years. Nancy often joined him and brought Bruce delicious home-made cookies. In the early years we liked to meet at Peabody´s for dinner and ordered "hummers" for dessert. After Peabody´s closed, Dick brought the "fixings" to our house when he and Nancy visited so we could continue our tradition, even though Bruce opted out!

Dick Euler was the best guy ever....he was a big handsome guy who was always smiling, friendly, intelligent, sincere, loyal, kind, caring, polite, generous, funny, and he had more optimism than any person I knew. Dick "assisted" me in planning our last three class reunions....60th, 65th and 72nd at The Iroquois Club in Bloomfield Hills. He was a huge support system, and we worked well together.

I offer my sincerest condolences to Dick´s loving wife, Nancy, and his three children, their spouses, many grandchildren and great granddaughter. You were blessed for having this remarkable man as the leader and mentor for your family.

I will always love and remember Dick Euler and enjoyed and appreciated his friendship!

My heartfelt condolences to Nancy Euler and her family in their loss of Richard"Dick" Euler. I met Dick almost 13 years ago when I moved to the Village of Oakland Woods. Dick was a Board Member, volunteer for various events. as well as driving residents to the grocery stores and Lighthouse Luncheons. He was always very pleasant, happy, and in good spirits. I loved seeing him in his various hats. He was always well dressed with a hat and a smile. He will be missed by many. Praying for you Nancy and your family. You & Dick were such a beautiful couple.

I'm saddened to read of Dick's passing. He was full of energy, humor and generosity. He and Nancy were thoughtful supporters of the church, the community, and my ministry as interim pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Pontiac. They kept in touch for several years after I moved on to another church. He was a wonderful gift to everyone who knew him and many whom he touched but never met. My deepest condolences, Nancy.

I've had the blessing of being Mark and Margaret's neighbor and meeting Dick and Nancy on a few occasions when they came to Ohio. What a rich and blessed life he lived, and what a beautiful legacy he has left in his family. I am honored to have met him.

There was no better man then Dick. He helped us from day one begin Faith in Action of Oakland County. Today, because of him, we have now completed over 100 safety home repairs free of charge to our low-income elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners. We have worked in 41 of our 62 communities and to Dick I give so much credit. He believed it would work when others did not. I miss him dearly. He is and will continue to be missed always and at our Dancing with the Stars fundraiser we will miss his hat and I will miss his support.

We have written Nancy but are so sad to lose a larger than life friend. One of a kind. A friend from early marriage until the end. Sorry but it is too hard for us to travel in December. We are having a family reunion here in Florida of Mary Beths family that weekend.
We hate to miss a huge celebration. We would even have worn Michigan State gear which is hard for us members of the other school

So sorry to hear of Dick's passing. He was a wonderful man. I worked "around" him at PVM and saw him a few times at my current work in Bloomfield Township. He always had a smile and some kind of wonderful hat. Sending condolences to Nancy and all who knew him.
With prayers and hugs, Maggie Barclay
