Douglas Jacques Obituary

Douglas T. Jacques Douglas T. Jacques died Monday, April 7, 2014, doing one of his favorite activities (grocery shopping to prepare to cook for friends). He was in Palm Springs, CA, at his winter retreat. Doug was born in Enumclaw, WA, adopted by Helen and Thad Jacques and grew up in Tacoma and later Burien. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; three daughters, Jacqie (Casey), Nicole (Morris), and Collette (Aaron); brother, Dan (Debbie); and sisters, Nancy (Lyle) and Paula (Joe). He is also survived by the lights of his life, six beloved grandchildren, Quinton Dale, Marcus, Josiah and Jada Miller, and Brody and Colton Rauch. His mother-in-law, Pearl Lee, and both Doug and Bonnie's extended families and their friends mourn his passing. Doug was an avid Cougar fan, majoring in pre-law and history, and graduating from WSU in 1971. During a hospital stay at the UW, Doug said, "he could not get well being subjected to a view of Husky stadium". Doug had a 30 year career with the State of Washington in the Department of Social and Health Services, the Department of Corrections, and the Employment Security Department. He retired in 2002 as Director of Corrections and Special Operations, having promoted a number of innovative approaches to reduce offender recidivism. Doug's retirement was filled with family, friends, and travel. Although a series of vascular surgeries occasionally interfered with his schedule, he was happy, active, and social up to the day of his death. He will be missed. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard, Olympia, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Community Youth Services, the Thurston County Food Bank, or a charity of your choosing.
