Roy Van Note Obituary

Roy N. Van Note 98, died peacefully on April 9, 2014. A Doctor of library science, he retired to Tucson in the '80's from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. Born in Mattoon, Illinois to Herman and Elsie (Stokes) Van Note, Roy received a Bachelor's in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1939, a Bachelor's in Library Science from University of Michigan in 1946, a Masters in Library Science in 1949, as well as a Ph.D. in Library Science, both from the University of Illinois. Roy proudly served in the First Special Service Force elite unit during WWII where he received the Canadian Parachute Silver Maple Leaf Wings. He was a dedicated traveler and on his many trips to Europe he delighted in studying art and architecture. Roy is predeceased by his brother. Norman and his long-time good friend, Herbert Searcy. He is survived by his brother, Donald and spouse, Roberta Van Note; sister-in-law, Karen Olsen (previously married to brother Norman Van Note) and nephew, Matthew and niece, Jennifer. Funeral Services will be held at St. Michael's and All Angels on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment of his ashes in the church burial ground. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his favorite charity, The Primavera Foundation, Inc.

Roy was an accomplished man who knew early in life where his path would lead. He worked hard to secure an education and was successful in the academic world. He was close to family and will be greatly missed.
