Anne Walker Obituary

Jan. 26, 1922 - March 31, 2016

Anne (DeGraf) Walker was born in San Francisco. At the age of 15 she was a Ballerina with the San Francisco Ballet and Opera Company and later graduated from Washington High School. During WWII, she was a member of the Red Cross Mounted Corps and the only one capable of handling Spencer Tracy's polo pony. She turned down a scholarship to the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo to marry John Hilary McCarty and devoted herself to raising a family. A widow at the age of 42, she met her second husband, Dave Walker, and together they enjoyed hitting the open road in their R.V. as well as sailing. She was a devout Catholic, which provided her with comfort and strength during her last days. Anne is predeceased by John Hilary McCarty, Dave Walker and her granddaughter, Joanna Hunter. She is survived by her children, Patricia Hunter (Joe), John McCarty (Patti), and Alice McCarty, as well as five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

According to Anne's wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent the Joanna Hunter Scholarship, Soroptimist International Vacaville, P.O. Box 6054, Vacaville, CA 95696.

Dear Hunter Family,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family for your loss. I was so fortunate to have the chance to know your mother through volunteering her time to benefit the students at Callison. I will never forget getting to share an evening with her during our book club and hearing first hand her memories of San Francisco during the war. I will always remember your mom with great fondness and respect. I hope your family finds comfort in your many happy memories of your time together. Love to you all, Leslie Losberger
